So this Saturday my favorite TV show in the world starts back up. Actually it started last Sat. but we won't officially count that one. I'm so glad they chose to go to Blacksburg, after the terrible tragedy that happend there. I certainly will be pulling for them this year and I've already heard them be referred to as "America's Team". They play ECU, which should actually be a decent game for awhile with Skip Holtz coaching the Pirates. Can't wait to get this season started with first mascot head prediction of the year!

Oh Hells no. When Beemer said he supported Vick I lost all respect for the guy and that program.

What the heck is wrong with supporting a former player in a time of need? Vick himself has apologized and said he needs to really grow up. At least Va Tech has a coach that is willing to be there for someone when they need him the most. Much better than THROWING THEM UNDER THE BUS, everytime they do something you don't like. I can't imagine what the world would be like if we all turned our backs on someone anytime they made a mistake. Granted this is an extreme case, but to not cheer for a school that is playing football just a few months after they had 30 people shot and killed while in class is equal as heartless!

Me donating money to that area's Red Cross is support enough. Beemer is notorious for his support of criminals on his team (Marcus Vick?). If you want to put the football team in terms of a representative of the people who were killed, it's short sighted. I'm all for healing, grieving, etc. But to refer to yourself as America's Team? Give me a break.

As far as Vick goes?Forgetting to put the seat down on the toilet seat for your wife, that's a mistake. Having one too many beers and puking is a mistake. Killing numerous dogs and sponsoring dog fighting on your property is a felony and isn't forgivable for me.

Call me heartless, but I don't buy your logic. I can sympathize with the students and parents for their loss, but it doesn't make me a fan of their football team. Just more sensationalism in sports journalism.

Reminds me of an Onion article

Well looks like I'm going to be in the minority which is fine. Maybe it's because I'm still in college and get text messages from the Purdue University Emergency Notification center anytime there has been a shooting or some crime on campus. Of course my University just settled out of court for 500,000 over the "accidental" death of a freshman last semester.

Either way, when I hear Va Tech I think of 30 innocent and scared to death students being brutally killed in class. Not someone who played football there 8 years ago who was just now found to be involved in animal cruelty. Maybe my associations are wrong, but they make more sense to me.

I don't really associate Mike Vick with VA Tech anymore either. On top of that a frequent poster on the Detroit Tigers message board was one of the 30 to lose their lives that day. As soon as the news broke there was a call out to him hoping he was okay, and we unfortunately found out later that day that he was one of the victims. I had never met him, but the same as many posters on here he was somebody that I had spent time talking with over the years. It was tragic to say the least.

The start of football season (and thus returning VT to the news) has definitely made me remember that tragic day. I cannot say I'll really be rooting for them, but I've definitely been thinking of them. Personally, I've always been a fan of Frank Beamer, I think he's a quality coach, despite what he may feel about the Vicks.

I am going to sound harsh about the Purdue situation, but here it goes anyway.
Not only did Purdue pay the family $500,000, they established a $100,000 scholarship in his name. Why? because the kid became drunk and went into a utility room that had high voltage electrical equipment looking in the dark for his coat, he was electrocuted.

Because the kid was drunk and acted stupid, Purdue should have to pay the family? They should call the Scholarship the Darwin Scholarship.

That whole "I have to grow up" is total BS! Never has "quit torturing and killing domesticated animals" been a rite of passage. He needed to say "I have to quit being an over paid, two-bit piece of s**t, ignorant, thug." I wish someone would of electricuted his punk-@$$ everytime he performed poorly on the field, the jack@$$...

I thought child-proofing stopped once children grew-up...I guess not...Once again, abdicating one's own responsibility rears its ugly head...

I feel for that family's loss, but you're right... drunk and climbing over fences to sneak through a boiler room for a coat. The family cashed in and then some.

A $3 Master lock cost Purdue $500K plus to make it all go away.

You've got to stop holding everything inside CF and try to let your real feelings out. Bottling up all this anger isn't good for you.

Anybody notice that there wasn't nearly as much anger towards the guy that shot up VT and killed a ton of people as there is towards Michael Vick for fighting and killing some dogs?
