As I am sitting at my corner watering hole tonight watching the Falcons pull one out I can't help but wonder...

1. Where was this offense last year? Why throw a year away on a conservative offense scheme? What, we were afraaid we'd only win three games instead of 4?

2. Minnesota's "Spead Coast Offense" was horible for most of the game. I think our defense had something to do with that in the first half. Starting a new Quarterback helped us out until their coach realized he could run it down our throats.

3. Why can't Corey stay healthy? I love his game but he has to be able to stay on the field. Some of the young receivers stepped up for us. Parks did more than I have ever seen him do. Derek Brighton (84) however looked very much like a redshirt freshman playing in his first game.

4. Freddie Barnes looks like the same hobbling player we saw last year. He played with a lot of heart and made some incrediblew plays tonight. Just once I'd like to see him line-up at receiver when he's 100%.

5. Brandon continues to make no adjustments what so ever at halftime. Plus, the play calling turned so vanilla in the third quarter with that big lead.

6. It looks like we may have a kicking game to speak of. The punting seemed fine and the FG to tie resotored my faith in our place kicking.

7. We have a quarterback! Anyone still want to debate that Turner should be running this offense?

8. Ransom and Bullock make a nice duo at running back for us. But I think we were in a four or five wide reciever set without a running back most of the time.

9. Next week at MSU will be a lot tougher assignment. Plus, we won't sneak up on anyone with the spread now that we are back to running it. But, the MAC teams are not going to want to see that our offense is back.

We have the ingredients. We had them last year, that is why 06 was so damn frustrating. Now we have seasoned them with a dab of JUCO and we have a three-headed monster at RB, a solid passing QB, and a running QB when needed, and accurate passes to very competent receivers. Mix it all together and you get a team that can make some things happen.

I think the biggest key is the QB play. Sheehan was so poised back there, read the blitz and found the open guy instead of getting jarred.

This team can get some things done.

I can't help but think that Stud was not quite ready for the OC job. Just my .02.

In the bar I didn't have sound. Was Geter number 28 or 32?

I don't think we had a qb last year that could operate a run dominated attack. The passing will be the key. If Sheehan continues to hit recievers the offense will go. I've gotta believe Minnie was not expecting the passing accuracy they saw tonight. That said, next week will be a challenge with MSU prepared for the new offensive effectiveness.

I was surprised at the number of holding penalties called on the offensive line (the strength of our team).

Kickoff return team - not good.

Sheehan was terrific. I didn't get to see him play last year. Very surprised at how well he played.

Yeah I was a little disappointed with our line today with the holds. All in all they did a great job protecting though. I also agree that our KR's need some work, but let's hear a big AMEN for special teams in general!


*First off.. not a single punt was blocked, botched, shanked, returned for six or anything else we're used to seeing over the last couple years. (I attribute this to the punt formation)

*Next.. we made a clutch FG. My friends and I were nervous as hell late in the 4th when they showed the kicker on the sidelines... he looked like a deer in headlights, but kudos man.. you got the job done!

*All in all I think our kick coverage was pretty good. The new 30 yd line for kickoff sucks for smaller schools who don't have the legs that the big schools have, but I think we made the best of it.


All things considered, what a huge improvement! Special teams last year were a huge liability to this team, but things really seem to be coming around. Great job falcons!

In a post game show, Brewster said Minnesota had no idea who would be in BG's backfield or if they would even have one, and that made it impossible for them to plan for. Still, having "got" BG's number in the second half, BG could still make its clutch plays. A 400 yard passing game. No interceptions. No turnovers.

The "East" doesn't look half bad right now, does it? Kent took care of business, Akron "gets it done", Temple had a go. Brewster didn't sound too ecstatic about his roadtrip to Miami. I'm more interested in what Ohio have to show for themselves. Maybe the MAC East will be a humdinger this year!
