Big Ten Refs...

As an Ohio State fan...SECONDARY to being a BG fan, I notice, many times a bias by the refs TOWARDS a big ten team when they are playing a lesser opponent. Usually I don't care...but does anyone agree with me when I say "I can't believe how much the refs tried to make sure Minnesote won that game?????" I have to be honest, I am surprised that Freddie wasn't called for Offensive Pass Interference so that 2 point conversion could be nullified. Does anyone else think that Big Ten refs have it in for outside conference teams coming into Big Ten home fields??? For instance, the Pass Interference call that led to the field goal Minn. made to take the lead...I'm a bit verklemped over the win...discuss amongst yourselves

I don't know if I'll say it's got anything to do with an overall bias, but I have to say the last two PI calls against BG were mostly BS. The second-to-last on the right side of the field near the end zone was ok, but the last one down the left sideline was a joke. Either way, we beat them all!

I am not sure how the crew was divided, but I think the Ref was from the MAC. I agree the calls were puzzling, but as an OSU fan, you must remember how BG got bent over against the Buckeyes in 2003.

The announcers on the Big Ten Network are a joke. On our first TD, Jim Kelly, twice called in a Golen gopher score. Baldinger is just a plain douche bag.

Yes, they called us the Gophers all night. They also were pretty openly cheering for Minnesota. That one phagocyte said something like "the hair on the back of my neck is standing up" right after Minny got a big run on us in the 2nd half. He would also say things like "there we go" when Minny got a good play.

As for the refs, they were pretty damn biased... but I have to say I've seen worse. OSU in 2003 was defn worse.

Bad calls that stick out in my mind, twice on 3rd and short it appeared we stopped them short & they got a generous spot. The ref immediately signaled 1st Down w/o even thinking of a measurement. Then that last pass interference call was A JOKE!

Isn't an officiating crew from the visiting team's conference the norm?

In most cases yes. I believe the PAC-10 has some rule where they get to use their own officials. I think thats part of why OU fans were so pissed about all those bad calls at Oregon last year, including the infamous onside kick!

As far as the announcers go, remember, this was on the BIG 10 network. If it was on the MAC network (if there were such a thing) I would expect the announcers to openly root for BG. When I listen to an Indians game on the radio, I expect Tom Hamilton to root for the Tribe. If it were on any other network unafilliated with a conference the open rooting would bother me more.

Oh yes, this was totally expected. I'm from West Lafayette, IN so I never expect to hear anyone root for BG under any circumstance. That's why I come on here to keep my sanity!

I thought there were definitely questionable calls on BG. The PI when feet got tangled up was pure BS.

I thought the officiating was ok at best. A couple pass interference calls were questionable against BG. But the BTN sucks...those announcers were horrible and no doubt were Big Ten homers. But then again they do work for the BTN. Get some different commericals too!!

My feeling on TV is that announcers should try to curb their bias. If you want to listen to homers, tune in to radio. You could never get any score updates during the game either of the Toledo game.

As a Michigan fan, but a BG fan first and foremost,....damn am I embarassed about that loss. But I love the underdog and I'm happy to see that Appalachian State won, even if it was at the expense of Michigan. Can't wait for something similiar happen to all the money grubbing BCS conference shools.

Yes, the referee was identified on TV during the game as being from the "MAC Conference."

I thought the bogus PI call on Smith in the 4th offset the obvious PI they didn't call on Minny's 1st or 2nd drive.

It depends on the contract for the game(s) is written.

They were MAC refs for sure. They announced that at the beginning of the game
