It has been reported that Demetrius Jones has enrolled in school near home at Northern Illinois. Supposedly, he'll be eligible to play next season.

This is huge not only for NIU but for the MAC Conference [sic].

Great "get" by NIU!

Boy does NIU need a QB in the worst way. That was an excellent get for them, because right now they are pretty bad, especially on offense.

That being said they'll probably smack EMU today because EMU is worthless.

EMU wins! The eagles are now 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in the MAC! The huskies drop to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the MAC. Hopefully this isn't a return of the NIU of old. They have come way to far to go back to that. Congrats to EMU, hopefully this win will lead to many more.

Didn't he start the opener for ND? I would think he'd have to sit out a season.

That was my initial thought, but I'm not sure what the exact rule is there. He played less than a half, so maybe since he's already enrolled at NIU, he can count this year as his transfer year. I wonder if the playing time rule in this situation is similar to the medical redshirt rule.

I think it has to do with when you enroll. If he can still do two semesters at NIU, he's good.

There's a mention of it in the AP wire story about the NIU-EMU game, it almost sounds like he had to transfer this week to be able to play next year. I wonder if NIU is just starting their school year, or if it's something about enrolling with in the first X weeks of a semester.

If it has anything to do with "only playing a half" like a medical redshirt, that's a kick in the pants to all the legit medical redshirts that have been denied.

This will be his sit out year. ESPN reported that he enrolled in time (within the first 12 days of class or something) to be ok to play next year. I'm not sure that NIU's offense is set up to take advantage of a mobile QB, but I'm sure that could change. This is a good pick-up for them.

He's no QB. He stunk it up in that 1st game at QB for ND. Less arm strength & accuracy than our own Freddie. NIU would be smart to use him elsewhere...

and just think of the possibilities 20 years down the road of being known as an NIU graduate rather than an Alumnus of Notre Dame.

As Red would say...."dumbass!!"

Speaking of rules, how about the policies governing recruiting a player enrolled in another school?

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Jones had a players sideline pass for the EMU game, but Jones claims that he's not had any contact yet with NIU coaches in an article today in the South Bend Tribune.

Something smells fishy...why would he try and hide the fact that NIU was courting him?

he's played a half this year, its not like any other ND qb has exactly lit it up. they dont even have an offensive touchdown this year. he was like a top 10 qaurterback in his recruiting class i believe.

if they wanted a week 1 starter...
