Hi Greg! :smt039

Also, the "how many douchebags does it take to ask a question about the hockey announcer?" question is answered.

God help us if he ever checks in during a football game chat...he'll think we're a bunch of maroons... :-)

I would hope that he's a little busy during football games. By busy, of course, I mean drinking and eating up in the President's Lounge.

I'm confused (again).

Back in the olden days when I was there, students called the hockey games on WBGU-FM as well as the basketball and football and baseball. Was this guy a pro?

Go BG!

The most recent protocol called for Andy and a member of BGRSO to join him for games which were local/able to be traveled to for the student joining Andy. If no one was able to join him, he would call the game himself. He was an employee of the University and was paid to be the "Voice of the Falcon Icers." He's also a former member of BGRSO.

Honestly, I really hope that Danny Nieves takes over...his knowledge of hockey is amazing and his calls are great...I don't know if they'll hire a student to do it though...do we really need anyone other than BGRSO members to call the games? I don't think so.

Danny is the best hockey announcer in RSO, hands down. He's also the only one with experience doing play-by-play for BG when Andy was sick earlier in the season.

When the Fostoria station stopped professionally broadcasting the games the job fell soley on 88.1. They tried student announcers for a couple of years but they tended to be extremely unprofessional and difficult to follow. Failing to land another local station to pick up the games they settled on hiring a professional to call the games on 88.1. In came Andy and it's worked out quite well.

As a former student and play-by-play, and color broadcaster for WBGU it is disappointing that BGRSO lost the opportunity to have students run broadcasts for Falcon Hockey. At one time, only Syracuse University broadcasted more student run broadcasts than BG. At least that was the rumor. Do students still do the Football and Basketball broadcasts?

My brother's buddy, Ryan Frisby was one of the last student color commentators for the hockey games. It is a shame that the students don't get a chance to broadcast the games, I'd love to be able to critique my favorite sport and favorite team.

I like to blame Ryan Frisby for the downfall of a lot of things. :-D

But I agree, it's a shame that students aren't being given that chance anymore. I had a blast when I did it.

Decline AND fall, thank you. :-D
Although I think they still did them a year or two after I left, so it must not have been ALL me.
