"The Falcons will wear new uniforms designed by Adidas and will replace the oldest working scoreboard in Division IA football with a newer scoreboard with video capabilities.
In addition, the athletic department will unveil its new graphic identity at football media day. The identity will introduce a new "consistent" font for the athletic program, primary wordmarks and monograms, a version of the traditional Falcon head that will be used solely by BGSU athletics and secondary retail marks that will expand BGSU athletics ability to market itself beyond northwest Ohio. "
Sounds nice to me, does anyone have any clue what they will look like. Does this mean that we will have new basketball, baseball everything uniforms?. A new Falcon Head logo?

Were you not here before the change to the new forums?
Pictures were posted and critiqued on there about a month or so ago. Whoever had the pics should dig them up. Or Falconz might have a link to the old forum for ya
The only change to the logo is that the new helmet will no longer have the white on the inside of the Falcon head. I think the consensus was that, despite your original thoughts, it actually makes the logo stand out more than before.

You'll have to ask Grant when he gets back. I don't know where the old forum is located. I'm sure it's in purgatory somewhere.
Also, they aren't just getting rid of the white in the center of the helmet, I think they're putting a white stroke all the way around the falcon head. That WILL make it stand out more, but I'm so used to the white in the middle.

This was my favorite part:

a.) I am glad the falcon head is staying as part of the "new" look. My Tattoo had to be put on hold, but when I get it, it will feature the Falcon Head. I think a vast majority of BG fans like the logo.
b.) The fact that they are even
thinking about marketability "beyond Northwest Ohio" is wonderful. I am seeing more and more BG gear here in the Cleveland area, and I hope it is just the beginning.
Part of me is saying "It's about time," but I am mostly glad it is happening. Way to go Krebs and the athletic department!

Can anyone get out to the scrimmage and give us some reports and possibly get some pictures? That would be awesome.

Perfect! Feel free to post some insight on what you see while you are out there if you can. I'd love to hear any kind of news you can provide.

The news release is very interesting.
They will unveil:
"a version of the traditional Falcon head that will be used solely by BGSU athletics"
That begs the question: Is anyone else using our Falcon head? I never thought so.
In any case, I am guessing this refers to the logo that will appear on our helmets this fall, with the new outline.
Also:
"and secondary retail marks that will expand BGSU athletics ability to market itself beyond northwest Ohio."
I'm guessing this may represent a bigger change, something new.
I'm also guessing the athletic department probably likes the new mark(s) they've come up with. Maybe they are looking ahead and wondering if it could be phased in as the main logo one day.
I'm not trying to lay out conspiracy theories. Just speculating.
I've got to give Krebs credit. Everything I've seen so far looks pretty good. They are embracing orange and brown. They don't seem to be dumping the logo we are all very comfortable with.
They are handling this pretty well.
I can't wait to see the new graphics all put together.

I like the idea of a pre semester scrimmage. That should gain support among new freshmen especially.
Good to see Sharon in the picture. That should mean something in regards to his status.
I really like the attention being given to the D-line. We have top players along the line and working them into the MAC's best will be great. You can win a lot of games on the backs of the defensive front.
The revised logo and the new logo both look great!

it doesn't. i've sat on this for a while, beacuse i was asked by the student-athlete that shared this information with me not to post on the site beacuse the athletic dept wanted to keep it as something of a surprise.
back in late may/early june, they called a meeting with student-athlete representatives from all of the falcon teams to discuss the direction which the athletic department was taking in marketing. that includes, among other things, the new font, and, a new, traditional falcon head logo. by traditional, they mean it looks like a bird, not merely an outline. it is, as is my understanding, the intention of the athletic department to reserve this new logo to be used only by athletics, and on offical athletic apparel, not on paperweights, coffee mugs, pink thong underwear, etc. it is the view of the athletic marketing people that the realistic falcon head will be more marketable, and bring more to bgsu's athletic identity. the new logo will debut on all winter and spring sports uniforms; things weren't done in time to include it on this year's football uniforms.
as i said, this information came from a student-athlete who was at the aforementined meeting, and to my knowledge, and the knowledge of my source, it's still a go.

This is exactly what a poster brought up on the old AZZ.com, a lot of people didn't believe that a new logo was made. The person described what the logo looked like and that it looked like a bird kind of like the Atlanta Falcons logo. I think the poster said to ask the SID that he would know about it. Even then people refused to believe it. Now it looks like that person was telling the truth.

I'm not sure I like the sound of this.
I know a coach socially, and he asked me recently if I had seen the "new logo." I said no, then I asked what he meant.
Other people were talking, I was a little drunk and I never really got straight what he was talking about. He said something about "an outline, it's cool, you'll like it." I asked if it was like the revised helmets. He said "no," but I wasn't sure if *he* had seen the new helmets.
Boy. A new logo? I'm nervous. Everything has worked out so far.
Does this mean our helmets are going to change again in 2005? Are we getting rid of the traditional logo completely?
If they put a cartoon animal on our helmets, I'm going to puke. I'm not sure that's what you are describing... but we have too many damned Disney logos in this conference already.
