What happened? Was the coach that big of a loss?

Looks like it, North Dakota State crushed them today. The Chippewas look BAD, especially on defense. They didn't get any rushing attack going today either. QB Dan LeFevour was their leading rushing with 40-some yards. In fact, starting RB Ontario Sneed had a very similar experience to our own Willie Jeter, he fumbled on his first rush attempt and never really got into the game afterward.
The coaching change has definitely screwed up some things in Mount Pleasant. However, that being said, and I can't stress this point enough, CMU is still 1-0 in MAC play. That's really all that matters. Buffalo is 1-3 as well, but they are also 1-0 in the MAC. So until they drop one in MAC play, the Chippewas, and the Bulls, are relevant.

The CMU coaching situation is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma inside a Peta Pocket.
They hired Butch Jones off the staff of West Virginia on the grounds that he'll retain their high-flying, spread philosophy.
The only problem was that Jones used to also be the CMU offensive coordinator under Mike DeBord, who ran a classic two-back set and was nicknamed Mike DeBoring by the fans. When Brian Kelly took over, he stayed on staff and but was demoted to running backs coach before leaving for WVU. When he returned to CMU, he hired the quarterbacks coach from when he was there originally as offensive coordinator. So, are you running the old CMU offense, a passing spread offense like Kelly ran or a running spead offense like WVU?
I'm sure the players are just as confused as everyone else.

That was shocking to see CMU get pasted by 30 on their home field to NDSU. NDSU lost at MN last year, 10-9, so they obviously will line up and play to win.
