Brandon Mack , The Defense.......

It irks me to no end that Mack our surfire stud D-lineman is sitting on the bench because he's isn't ready to play OL yet. Next year he's a senior. Is he a lock to start at OT or OG next year? Even if so , how good is he going to be for us on the OL?
With injury issues on the DL creeping up again , I dont' now why Mack isn't on the DL playing DT and/or DE for us. He's a very athletic big body than do damage from the DT or DE position. Don't know how long Davis or Schaefer are out , if either one of them are actually able to play this week we just dodged a major bullet. I know the Sean O'dro move from TE to DT has seemingly worked out fine this year , but I can't help but think how our D would be with Mack on the DL actually playing instead of standing on the sidelines waiting to play OL next year. We've nearly wasted 2 seasons of this kids career by trying to change him to a already loaded position. DL is where we seem to have the most trouble at injury wise. If he'd really be a stud on OL too , why not let him still play DL for us this year and try to change him next year if we absolutely must, cuz he's not even on the 2 deep at any of the OL positions last I checked.
Maybe its just me , but I have not understood one iota of what GB is trying to do with this talented young man. I guess if Mack pleaded with GB to make him an O-lineman thats one thing, but something tells me he didn't.
My next point is our D is gonna need major help this Sat. if Nick Davis can't go at NG. Right now we have just O'dro , Barrrow and DJ Young as DT's with playing experience, that is if Ream is still under suspension.

After that we have to go to true freshman in Torresso and maybe the other big DL/OL recruit from this years class. Torresso's RS is gone as he played in last Sat's game late in 4th qtr. So basically our DL in is need of some major help. Mack back at DL seems like the perfect remedy to me. Thoughts?

I agree Mack could be used on the DL these days...and he is a Senior this year. What about Brady Minturn? He could switch back as well.

They moved Mack back to DT last year....If Ream is back he'd be #3 on the depth chart at DT behing the Young/O'dro, Ream/Barrow combos which is about where he is on the OL depth chart..I'm not sure what you gai moving a guy form 3rd string on one unti to 3rd string on another.
Toresso saw action...I assume...because he was a better option for the DL than Minturn or Mack right now. The kid is supposed to be as strong as an ox and at 6-3 he's better suited for DT from a center of gravity standpoint than Minturn or Mack who are both around 6-5.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, we rotate alot more often on D-line than we do if ever on the OL. The more fresh bodies are out there in those trenches the less chances for being totally worn out near the end of the game. And as far as center of gravity goes , yeah thats nice but so is having a huge 6'5 body with long arms to put in the face of opposing qbs to bat balls down like a center in b-ball. If Torresso can get the job done , I'm fine with that. But Ream has got to get his sh*t in order and get on the field.

We rotate the two deep on the DL by and large.
The problem with playing DT with a higher center of gravity is that it's easier for the OG andthe C to get their pads under yours to drive you out of your gap. That can happen on every play instead of the 25-30 pass plays you might see....an unknown percentage of which would travel in the passing lane directly over an individual defender.
Truthfully...when these "roster questions" pop up my first reaction is to chuckle...I chuckle because none of us(myself included) have half the clue the coaches do on this topic.. They recruit these kids, they coach them every day and they know their strengths and weaknesses. The very idea that any of us would deign to tell them who to play where is amusing...very amusing indeed.
I'm assuming that DOES have his "sh*t together" already...if he didn't I suspect he'd be off the team already. You shouldn';t assume taht he's an ongoing problem because he's still on the sidelines.

Well, although I think this is discussion is extremely ridiculous I cant help but make some corrections. Mack is still on the OL. He did move back and forth last year, but has been on the OL since summer camp. Davis got injured Saturday but im almost positive he went back in the game and is good to go Saturday.
How do you know Mack is this amazing talent on the DL? Is it just cuz hes monsterous in size? I am pretty sure these coaches can judge talent better then any of us and theres a reason they have him on the OL. I am not saying Mack is not a great athlete but theres obviously a reason for it, so im not really sure why this is even being discussed.
To my knowledge Ream should be able to play this week, but I am not positive on that.

FWIW, Davis did NOT get back in the game on Sat., and last reports had him getting an MRI to see the extent of damage...originally called a sprain, but that was without an MRI to verify.

Yea my fault bout that...had overheard a player talking about it and thought I heard him say Davis was good to go. Thats what I get for eavesdropping I guess lol.

Plus, I'll bet he's got some pent-up frustration he'd like to unleash on someone!

All I know is , I remember him being a total stud at DE while watching his first 2 years. Ever since he's bulked up , I've always though a transition to DT would be suitable. Mack is a very talented athlete and it just pains me to think that me may only play barely 3 years in uniform when he could be playing 4.

Wonderful, we're officially down to 3 DT/NG's with major playing experience and a true frosh. Yikes.

We're also facing a team not known for their amazing running game. Relax Chicken Little.
