Coach Darnell on BG and today's score

Post by orangeandbrown »

"I want to really congratulate Gregg Brandon, his staff, his football team, because they were absolute class-act today. Anyone that was there, anyone that saw it on TV knows that they could have named the score today. That was huge on Gregg's part."

It was a big class-act today. I mean come on, does anyone really think BG only scored 3 points in the 2nd half because that's all WMU's defense would allow. Coach Brandon was getting as many people as he could on the field while still keep them from scoring and I think it was very well respected. In the 9 years I have been watching BG football home games, this was the first shut-out I have ever seen. But 52-0? It could have easily been 100-0! Congrats to the coaching staff for making it looks closer than it really was!

.........as opposed to dear Urbie, who had to reinsert his starting QB to run up the score a little more. That was sickening and showed a TOTAL lack of class!!! :butthead:

"But they have to do that to get the attention of the poll voters." (paraphrasing the ESPN announcers.) I'm all about sportsmanship and not rooting for injuries, but I wouldn't have felt bad one bit if Colorado State started headhunting before, during and after the whistle when he put Smith back in. Not just putting him in, but THROWING the ball up 25 points with 5 minutes left.

I don't blame Urban. If Utah wins out and doesn't get a BCS bowl game, it would be this year's Crime of the Century.

ESPN2 didn't get the shot of him on the sidelines with Rick Neuheisel on the phone yelling, "Dammit Meyer! The spread! Don't forget the spread!!!"

I'd agree with that if there weren't USC, Okie, Auburn and Wisconsin all undefeated with tougher schedules. Normally at this point at least two of those teams would have a loss and I would expect Utah would rank ahead of them (or at least gain needed points), but that's not the case this year.

And Utah's schedule is fine this year - they have 3 BCS conference teams on there, and while Arizona stinks and UNC isn't much better (obviously a win over Miami makes them look better), they've beaten them all handily and aren't in this position by scheduling cupcakes.

But if those teams right ahead of them don't lose, I can't pick Utah over them.

I'm not arguing for Utah to play in the so-called national title game. I'm merely suggesting they are worthy of inclusion in one of the four BCS bowls.

Agreed...if the Utes win out there's no way in hell they shouldn't get a BCS bid.

I second that...but Meyer did cross the line by putting Smith back in. I wonder how Sonny Lubick is feeling toward his former assistant?
Paybacks are you know what....

Utah is a great football team...
