New verbal

I have read over on Scout.com about a new kid to our class. His name is Norman Young and he is from Trotwood OH. He had camped here and we were his first offer and picked us over offers from Ball State, Cmu, Emu and Toledo. Kansas and Cincinnati were also interested in him as well. He is not sure where he will play here at BG but if he stays at his 6'1 185 it will be at DB seeing he can run the forty in 4.41. He said that if he might bulk up more he like to try his hand at playing RB. Sounds like another good get for the coaching staff.

Sounds like a good pick-up. This class is molding into a great group, it has me excited for the future.

6-1, 185 and running a 4.41 in the 40?

If those numbers are at least in the right neighborhood, he could help at a variety of positions - DB, WR, RB...

Marc Stevens?

What I found interesting about this verbal...I was checking through SCOUT.com and Marc Stevens, whose pics graced AZZ recently, isn't listed yet among the verbals to BG...only other offer listed for him was from Akron...wonder what's going on...unless his family and/or coach hasn't released the info. Only surprised since he seemed to be "flying high" 2 Sats. ago. As to the Trotwood kid, we've also offered a couple of others from that HS.... And, based upon the polls, regional playoff totals etc., it would seem that SW Ohio is the "power region" this year in Ohio HS football... NE Ohio seems to be in a bit of a "down" year, with fewer strong teams. PD listings (top 25 etc.) would seem to bear this out a bit.... doesn't mean there still isn't a lot of individual talent, just seems to be fewer strong teams. Massilon and Canton McKinley game might be first time in many years where BOTH teams come in under .500 if this keeps up for example.

Trotwood played my brother-in-law's team a few weeks ago and the bro-in-law's coaches told him that 9 kids from Trotwood will be given D-1 scholarships. The DDN ran a big article a few weeks back concerning OHSAA looking into recruiting violations. Good luck proving that if you couldn't prove that NCH "recruited" two kids from West Virginia and that LeBron played on a Northeastern Ohio All-Star team.

Rivals had Stevens with offers from most of the MAC and Marshall...IIRC WMU wanted him very badly.

So far as Mr Young goes...redshirt him for a year, hang 10-15 pounds on him and we have the next PJ Mahone/Jamal Brown at safety.

If we can close out Mr Schafer from the great state of Indiana and land that Orsbon kid from the Lima area...we'll be looking at a small but very talented class. I saw some video of a DB from GA named Manley Waller who looks like he could be Willie Geter's kid brother...5-8, 160 lbs but he's FAST and seems to love playing the run from the CB position...let's get him too... :-)

I know there was talk that we were looking to land 5 OL and 5 DDB to complement that kicker we after that can hit Canada from the parking lot at Cedar Point, but you gotta sign at least one QB a year, right?

Marc Stevens

He had offers from every MAC school along with Marshall. He was recruited hard by WMU, Ohio, Kent State, Ball State and Toledo. It looks like offers may come from a number of other colleges in the near future. Boston College and NC State picked up interest in Marc

He wants to play at Bowling Green and is working hard to land that 5th OL targeted by the coaching staff. You can thank the hard work of Coach Matt Campbell. He out hustled everyone to land Marc at BGSU. The new Sebo Center... well let's just say that is icing on the cake.

This 2008 OL's and the rest of the class can be outstanding one.

I assume you mean this in the same vein as The Blade is "One of America's Great Newspapers", right?

I'm from Dayton and know about this Trotwood recruiting scandal. 2 years ago their basketball team was very good State runner-up. Their coach left and went to Texas I believe and Trotwood hired Springfield South's head coach Larry Hamm (Sp?). Since then the basketball team has welcomed 3 or 4 new big time transfers from all over as from as from Brookhaven I believe. The football team has also been traveling down the same road. Getting a lot of tranfers into the district. Terrable 2 years ago last year getting better and this year they have 8 or 9 legit D1 players, several recieving offers from SEC, P10, B10, and Big East schools. The whole situation in Trotwood is very fishy, also when that article came out in the Dayton Daily News a couple months ago the OHSAA seemed like it was a slam dunk case against them. Hope this doesnt effect our recruiting our the players who are recieving scholarship offers.

The NCAA says they aren't allowed to listen to me, anyway, what with the seven, maybe eight dollars I spent in 50/50 tickets last year...

Hasn't it been a "down" decade so far??

Way to go, Coach Campbell. There are MANY reasons why kids will choose BGSU these days. I think we have a program that can blow sky high the next few years.

I'm not sure a high school getting in trouble can affect an individuals chance at a college scholarship. The worst thing that can happen is that the individual is in trouble for accepting "gifts." If this happens, I think that person would be ineligible for college as well...wouldn't that player then be considered a professional?). Anyone who wants to chime in and help out is free!
