Back home for the week, and listening to alot of 1470

When did they become the station for the Buckeyes? I was floored when I heard that Norm Wamer will be hosting a buckeye show. This is absolutely absurd. That station should be covering
1) Toledo
2) BG
3) The Mac
4) The Buckeyes
In that order.
(Move this if you want, it is football and BG related so I thought I w ould put it here first, clearly by adding this qualifier I recognize the shades of gray

What can you say. None of this is really shocking. It is what it is.

Well, they air Buckeyes games every Saturday, and I don't think that's new.
So a Bucks talk show?
I guess I see why they might want to build up their product. For whatever reason, (I think) WLQR 1470 in Toledo and WFOB 1430 in Fostoria have decided to air Buckeyes games. So, to do a Bucks show -- I guess that's a natural.
I think Mondays often find Coach Brandon on the morning show on WCWA 1230. It's something I doubt they would be doing if 1230 wasn't part of the Falcon radio network.
So I guess it is what it is.

Nobody ever likes to hear this, but its because more people care about the Buckeyes.

It's ALWAYS been a Buckeyes channel, you just must not have noticed it before.
Norm is a HUGE Buckeye fan and their afternoon show has always reflected that. They have Brandon/Dakich (hopefully Orr too!) on their show regularly. The UT coaches don't cooperate so they're not on there as often. They talk about the MAC a little, but most of the time they just like to joke about the MAC for being worse than the Big 10. For as long as I can remember they have always aired the OSU Coaches' shows. They also always talk with Paul Keels at least once a week during the season.
That said, this year they have added that morning show, which sucks. They used to have a great national college football show on in the mornings, and now it's all Buckeye talk all the time...gag.
I would imagine that they will continue being the Buckeyes central for Toledo. They reportedly get huge ratings for Buckeye games (they claim they're one of the largest in the state). Talking with Norm before they actually wanted to continue airing BG basketball games (you remember a few years ago they had a number of them). However, when the Falcon Radio network was established the University (rightly so, IMO) insisted that the stations would air all of the football & basketball games. Norm laughed at that suggestion, saying that the Buckeye games were some of their highest ratings and wouldn't ever drop them.

Norm worked a few games with Dave Horger back in the 2002 football season when 1470 carried a few of them. I have no problem with the station pushing OSU football when they carry the games...that's just a good business practice. 1370 carries UT football...they talk about UT football almost exclusively and they host the coach's show for the football and basketball teams, That's just how the business works...you sell what you carry

+1
As a fan, I don't like it. As a business executive, I endorse it.

so, a bunch of putzes who hope to make $10,000 a year at some distant point in their careers hump the bucks' legs? not a big deal. let's hope the illegal on-line betting web-site ads keep them in business...

It's worse on WKNR in Cleveland now....All Buck$ games are carried (they are the flagship station), AND....now there is Buckeye Roundtable on MOnday evenings form 6-8. Thursday is "Inside the Buckeyes" with Road Man and a total douche bag named "Mr Buckeye", Duane Risco (sp?). Kenny Roda is on evenings from 6-9 and during football season, he isn't on the air at all half the time cuz it's all OSU crap. Roda used to put Dakich on from time to time and has had Brandon on in the past but still...ALL they talk about is OSU and the BiG Ten. I don't even call anymore cuz where are they gonna fit BG and the MAC in? They don't. With the Indians cruising in the playoffs, the Buck$ and now the Cavs starting up...along with the Browns...doesn't leave any room for anything else.
And people wonder why most of us say OSU stuff gets crammed down the throat. It does. I simply choose to turn off the radio because...let me be clear..."I don't give a rat's azz about OSU".
GO FALCONS
WKNR "before"

Mike, I think you'll recall that WKNR was the FIRST Cleveland station to carry BG games when we expanded our network out...that lasted (I think) perhaps 2 seasons before they picked up Central O. Tech.... Rhoda used to talk up BG a lot in those days, and I recall some dude named "the Freak" calling in several times.
Now, our games have been switched to WGAR 1220 in Cleveland... I assume all these stations are run by Clear Channel...I know you have a better knowledge of this than I do.

I've actually emailed Norm about having Coach Orr come on like DD did and he said he'd put out the offer. Hope it happens.
