Defense

Post by Falcon137 »

The coaching staff and offense has taken some serious heat, well deserved, but no one talks all that much about the defense. Lets be honest we could have scored 42 today, Miami could have picked a number and said we'll score this many. At no time today was the D close to making things interesting.

We can look at the Defensive coaching staff but lets look at the players....how many guys could start at other MAC programs? 2 or 3? This team is void of playmakers on D.

Are you kidding? At the absolute least, I'd take three Erique Doziers and a dozen John Hanelines.

I think for whatever reason the D struggles to play as a unit sometimes, to horrifying results (today, '06, etc.), but to say there are no playmakers is laying the hyperbole on a little thick, don't ya think?

The problem is not lack of playmakers.

The problem is lack of physical strength up front and overall lack of fundamentals all through the defense. Good god, don't they teach the concept of tackling (as opposed to ripping at the ball) in like 3rd grade? I mean come on. You forced one freaking fumble that way today and allowed an additional 150 yards after contact. PATHETIC.

The defense is crap, but sadly I've grown to where I expect crappy defenses from BG. I find the offense far more disappointing.

They have 2 playmakers on D maybe, getting a whole bunch of tackles doesnt make someone a playmaker. Especially when your making tackles downfield. You can't defend anyone on this defense this year, they flat out are over matched against every other teams O. Like I said in a different post the only way they can keep games close is if they force 4 or 5 turnovers and if they dont you see what happens. They can't stop a 2nd string QB a 3rd string RB and a team that averages 16 points.
