Offense:
The WR's all day avoided any type of contact and traffic. They played scared, and it let to way too many coverage sacks. Someone's got to try harder to get dirty and work for some space. It's football, things don't come easy.
Tyler needs to learn to throw the ball away. He was trying to do way too much by scrambling, and he needs to recognize that an incomplete pass is damage control. I know he will learn, but I feel that every other team on our schedule is going to employ the same D on us.
Too many turnovers. Bullock was awful when he got his chance, and WR's need to hold onto balls and quit the drops.
I think Dan Macon should get some more playing time. He has impressed me the past 2 weeks, especially since he has sat on the bench all year. It's time to reward those who want to work hard instead of throwing the same guys out there.
I think we'll be better suited to run the ball out of the pistol again. Tyler is mobile enough to pass out of that formation, and it'll help gain positive yards. LSU has gone to it this year and has had great success with it.
Defense:
What is it with our defense? I've never seen a team on defense actually back up when the play is coming towards them. We haven't been aggressive all season and it finally showed up yesterday. The LB's and DB's were always on their heels, letting the play come to them instead of getting after it. We still can't tackle.
Kenny Lewis can't do anything right. He was awful tackling and can't cover a lick. I hate to single a guy out, but he was absolutely dreadful.
Every team should throw deep on us. Our safeties do not recognize when to leave zone and cover a deep man. Coach Ward gets a big thumbs down for that.
Front four gets no pressure and we decided to blitz when the game was over. If we continue our passive defensive scheme, we're gonna get picked apart. By blitzing, we can at least try to disrupt some timing plays.
A 3rd string running back ate us up. I don't wanna see what Jarvis and Edelman are going to do to us next week.
Special teams:
Roger Williams is the man. He was the only bright spot yesterday. He had close to 200 yards on 7 returns. Kudos to Roger, he played hard.
The blocked punt was a disaster. We knew it was coming and never lined up to guard against it. Iovinelli had no chance on that one.
Kick coverage was awful again. We have regressed so bad in that area, it's sickening.
Overall, it was the worst BG game I've ever attended. It beat out the Kent game last year, and that's saying a lot. I hope the players and coaches are all embarrassed, especially for those of us who drove 4 hours to see them play. For all the talk about how the team was ready for MAC play, it was just simply that, talk. GB and staff need to look in the mirror right now and better get the team back on track. I saw a team yesterday who was lost, didn't care and brought no effort.
I was so disappointed in the way our players conducted themselves as well. There was no pride at all, it looked like a college team scrimmaging a high school team. This is twice in 2 years now that the coaching staff has to rebound from a blowout, and it's two times too many. I was optimistic things were getting better, but it was all a smoke screen. IMO, GB's job is on the line this week. A loss to Kent = no MAC East title and more than likely another losing season. Time to man up.
