BG Running Back situation

Post by bgsufalcon24 »

This might sound like a dumb question to ask given our refusal to run the football, but lets say for a minute that a change in offensive philosophy is coming and that we're going to start running 25-30 times a game. If you were Gregg Brandon, who would you start as your primary RB? Would you go with the speedster Geter, the power-back Bullock, or perhaps even the experienced Macon?

IMO, it's basically a RB by committee right now. Whoever seems to be showing the best effort and focus gets the job. Geter's been kind of invisible, Bullock has 2 fumbles last week and Macon has 2 TD's. Give Macon the nod until either someone else proves they can do the job or he goofs up.

Hate to say "I told you so", but I saw Macon play for a couple of years while in HS and he was DEVASTATING! Led team to state final game, lost to Dayton's C-J team led by Anthony Turner. He's a strong runner, and as late as last year, was supposedly the FASTEST Falcon. Some of you may recall that he busted off a pretty long run against OSU last year...I think the fact that he's a 5th yr. senior may have motivated him a lot, as he's looked pretty good on special teams. I'd also like to see Bullock get some carries again, if for no other reason to boost his confidence...a kid who did as well as he did last year shouldn't fall off the earth in one year...

Of course, this is all ASSUMING that we might actually attempt to run the ball a bit more than we have...Hopefully, the coaches realize that all passing isn't going to cut it when the other team knows how to cut out your QB's first 2 reads.

Your right Geter has been basically invisible. In retrospect, it would have been nice to red shirt him.

For it to matter, we'd have to have a reasonable number of rushing attempts, which we typically don't. Me, I'd love to see Winnie & Bullock mix it up in smashmouth style!

One is a true freshman that seems to have some fumbling issues.

One is a senior who has never impressed at the college level in spite of multiple opportunites, and has little room to improve.

One was a freshman all-american last year.

I've never doubted Macon and always thought he should be playing RB for us. A lot of people were really high on Bullock and as much as I wanted to be I just couldn't. Sure he looks great powering through defenders, but he misses too many blocks, runs the wrong routes, and fumbles in KEY situations. GB said this spring those mistakes were more evident than ever which is why he didn't start this year and why he hasn't seen the field as much. He played exactly that way against MiamiO, and this team can't afford that. I really hope he gets it together mentally and can come back because he sure has a lot of natural talent as a runner.

As for Geter he is still very young. I'd like to see him after a full year in the system and hopefully he can bulk up a little bit over the offseason. I still think he could be a great back to use on counters and screens. The kid has shown a lot of heart, so lets give him credit for that.

No disrepct to Dan Macon, but he has 6 carries over the last two games and you want to make him the starter? After showing very little for 4+ years, you think he is our best option to run the ball? Let's put Turner back at QB while were at it.

Agreed. Exactly how does Bullock not warrant significant carries after last year?

Too bad Ransom went down in the MN opener. I'd like to see what he can do.

I choose Bullock simply because the guy had almost 800 yards last year so we know he can get the yards.

Macon should get a few carries as well and why not give the ball to Winny a couple times? He LOVES to whack LB's.

I was psyched to see Macon come out and light the world on fire last season. Unfortunately, watching him in the first two games of the year, he seemed tentative and anything but explosive. He's looked better in a couple of his carries this year, but they haven't exactly come with the game on the line...

Me too -- we have to assume that the plan all along was to make him the feature back. He wouldn't have been brought in otherwise.

I can't believe that Macon is the leading vote getter here after the body of work we've seen from him. Classic fan amnesia.
