KSU Game Balls

I will get it started for Freak -

1. Gregg Brandon and the coaching staff - realized that Tyler was struggling coming into the game and took the pressure off by running the ball. Lot of gutsy calls - fake FG, throwback, onside kick, runs by CP and FB. Not all of them worked, but I loved how the staff threw everything we had at KSU.

2. O line and Pete Winovich - Willie Geter is a small guy, so the holes didn't need to be very big, but those guys opened up some monster holes for Willie to run through. Those guys have taken a beating on here this year (rightfully so), but they showed up to work yesterday. You have to wonder if they were sick and tired of pass blocking week in and week out. They looked like they were ready to pound the ball on the ground yesterday and smack some Flashes in the face.

3. Willie Geter - he outshined Jarvis. Very reminiscent of September 2004 when Garrett Wolfe came as a surprise and ran for over 200 yards against our defense. If Geter can have 1/2 the career that Wolfe had, I will be thrilled.

4. Sinisa Vrvilo - clutch kick to seal the game.

5. Anthony Turner - we finally ran something other than a QB draw with him in the shotgun and he takes the throwback to the house. Also had a nice TD run in the first quarter when everyone in NE Ohio knew that he was going to run the ball.

I will stop there, but each and every member of that team really deserves a game ball. In the predictions thread, we had about 3 people pick the Falcons to win. I am glad to say that I was wrong. Going on the road against a team fighting for their lives in the MAC East and coming out with a win - awesome performance.

1. Willie Geter- He played lights out, one of the biggest games for a true frosh in BG history.

2. Sinisa Vrvilo- He's made my list every week or almost every week. Clinched the game on the road with a 49yarder on a windy day. This kid is MONEY!

3. Gregg Brandon/McCall- Great play calling. Balance, running the ball, new wrinkles, double pass, fake fg, running on 3rd and short, onside kick. I loved it!

Excellent choices, fellas.

One more game ball goes out to the BG fans that made it to the game...it isn't easy when ya have a performance like last week. But there was a great deal of orange that made a ton of noise and had the musical talents of Metz and Co.

One other thing...Coach B. Way to be, man. That was beautiful. Way to have the team ready for battle and leading the troops.

Now, we need to pack the Doyt...I mean sell this puppy out against Ohio University. 6 pm kickoff, should be a decent evening (right now, they are calling for 52 and cloudy as the high). OUR team is in a divisional title chase. This is football at its best...late October...near Halloween....orange and brown everywhere in the uniforms and leaves.

ROLL ALONG...

Dang...Sorry, gotta add one more.

Coach Ward...he has some injury concerns up front but the D absolutely did their job when needed. Stopping Kent drives in the red zone and forcing FG's and turnovers on downs. HUGE performance by a unit fighting to stay healthy and survive.

Sure Kent got their rushing yards....but BG won the game. :-D

I was pretty surprised listening to the game on the radio and hearing a "Go BG" chants over the feed. Great work, guys!

If you think the "go BG" was good, you should have been able to listen to the BG - SU cheer after KSU tried "feebly" to mount a "KE NT" cheer...it was almost comic, to hear all that Orange crowd outscream the "monster" Kent Parent's Day "crowd". (all of 10K +).

But I agree with Freak...we've GOT to put a lot of butts into seats on Sat. against OU for OUR Parent's nite. And hopefully, what we saw from the running game will continue to give us more balance on Offense.

I agree on the radio feed deal. I don't know if it was just where the crowd mics were located, but there were times when a roar would go up before Todd's call and I expected it to be negative...but it wasn't. :-D

I'll give one to the KSU concession manager for coming up with the $1.00 hot dog promotion.

Kent even gave away a $2,000 dollar scholarship to a student attendee. All they had to do was show up for the game to be eligible. They still probably only had MAYBE a couple hundred students there. Their student section was pathetic.

Most of the Kent fans we saw or heard were too busy screaming at Douggy Martin to cheer when Kent did something right.
