My gripe with other students after Sat.

Post by Bleeding Orange »

I'm sure we're all familiar with some of the common complaints about our fans: they leave at halftime, they don't show if its not 70 and sunny, etc.

Well, after Saturday, I have two new ones.

The first is the most egregious. After having the opportunity to travel to Columbus and Norman the past two years, I have been able to witness first-hand how effective a large, smart crowd can be in turning the tide of the game. I am talking mainly about the first quarter here, but it is becoming increasingly evident that our fans have no idea how to conduct themselves at a football game. So, with a message to Falcon fans, let me make it easy with lesson number 1:

NEVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE CHEER AND USE THUNDER STIX WHEN YOUR TEAM IS TRYING TO GET A PLAY CALLED ON OFFENSE!!!!!!!!!!

For God's sake, this just seems like common sense to me, but it was clear Saturday that the majority of our fans are clueless, especially when its me and four other people making noise before WMU's 2nd and 10 plays.

I suppose that it really doesn't help when the cheerleaders are still cheerleading and the band is still playing while the play clock is running. Most other schools that I've been to pay attention to these kinds of things. I don't think that we do nearly enough, and with our program taking off we really need to. I'm certain that none of you around here are the problem, but if anyone is going to help change the culture of our fans it has to be us die-hards.

Two more things while I'm griping also:

1. I'm sick of stupid sorority girls who sit in the first few rows of the student section talking about how hot Cole is and basically wasting space that could be taken up by others who are actually there to see a game.

2. I'm not holding out much hope for a sellout this weekend because I bet its going to be very cold. I'm always amazed that people won't go to a football game because they wake up and say to themselves: "Holy crap, its not sunny and warm! What happened?" when they live in NW Ohio. Unfalconbelievable...

Your observations of our student section are quite astute. :D

At least the sorority girls were next to me, not in front of me, yesterday. That way I can at least see the field.

I totally agree with the not making noise while our team is trying to make a play. There were stupid girls behind me doing BGSU cheers at the most horrible times. And they were like "What is the x for with the thunderstix?" When someone told them why people make an x with the thunderstix they were just like "Huh? I thought we were supposed to make noise!"

It's ok to make noise, but not while we have the ball!

I was there early as well and was in the front row. It was the bimbos in the row behind me that didn't shut up that got on my nerves.

What yard line were you on? I was on the 40, band end zone side, sitting next to bgkarabear.

If I say the names Nick and Coach, do they ring a bell? As in, do you live with them?

I know Coach and I think I know Nick, but no, I do not live with them. I take it, then, that you know Brad?

haha, you ever notice how he ALWAYS has him helmet off on the sidelines?....and yes I agree with you, we have some pretty dumb fans. I remember at the NIU game I was about to fight several people around me with those thunderdicks because they wouldnt stop pounding them when we were at the line of scrimmage on offense.

Yeah, I know Brad. Sorry, for the assumption as to who you were. Where you said you were sitting and what you were wearing matched the description of one of their housemates. But now I am curious as to who you are.

I find it funny how some of the people on here complain about the fans not showing up to games then once fans do show up they complain about there actions. We should be happy with the turn out we had. Yeah some might be stupid but at least they were at the game. As long as fans fill the stadium is the only thing that matters. Plus nothing can bother Omar Jacobs. Not even Oklahoma's packed stadium. He is the man and I dont think a few girls talking is going to distract him.

The point is, that if our program is going to grow, the fanbase has grow with them. Not only in size, but also in intelligence. We need a full stadium of fans who know when, and when not, to cheer, in order for BG football to reach the next level as a program.
