What a horrific performance. How hard is it to catch a punt? How hard is it to call fair catch?! God damn put me out there for gosh sakes, I'll catch it! It just really peeves me to see us lose because of bullcrap like dropped punts! I don't think there's any doubt we would have sent the game into overtime had Charles not dropped that punt with 4 minutes left. We were moving the ball on Ohio at will all 2nd half.

These certainly were the most obvious turning points. I think two key opportunities early were settling for the field goal after starting the first drive so strong and then the long kickoff return by Ohio. These two plays took a lot out of BG's momentum and gave it to Ohio.

This is what bugs me about the situation. First punt he is back there for he muffs it and fumbles it away. The second one was kicked high in the air and he had plenty of time to run underneath, but he stayed back and had to sprint to it as it came down and barely got to the ball. So, after those first two experiences, A) why would you put him out there again, B) if he is out there, can anyone just tell him to fair catch the ball or get the hell away from it, or C) put Roger Williams back there, he returns kickoffs so I think he would at least be able to catch the ball.

Zach Charles better not be returning any more punts this year. Period. He proved his complete and total incompetence doing so tonight, and IMO, it might have cost us a victory.

I thought the second punt return (the sprint to catch it on the shoestrings) was Antonio Smith. I could be wrong, but I thought he got one shot at a return after Charles' first fumble.

Sure Charles should have caught the ball, but why wasn't he told under no circumstances was he to attempt a return? He came off the field and I did not see any of the coaches lay into him, so I am assuming that he was given a choice of what to do. Either tell the kid to fair catch it or go with an all out block with no returner.

Re: Roger Williams - I think GB said they have tried him at PR in practice and he has struggled to catch the ball. Seems like everyone other than CP suffers from the same.

Any word on CP? Broken finger maybe?

No offense to any of you, but I don't think anyone should call a player out after tonight. There's things across the board with the team that need worked out first...

Yeah, Charles should make those catches, but what about the guy who bent down to pick the ball up instead of falling on it? Or the lack of defense the whole game? Or etc, etc, etc...the list could go on. That was not a team playing together tonight, that's really it.


And from what Corey's dad said, he thought it was a ligament tear in Corey's finger. If so, he was going to be done for the year probably.

As bad as Zach Charles looked fumbling the ball, what the hell was Antonio Smith doing on that play as well? He basically ran a circle around the ball staring at it on the ground, then hovered over it and tried to pick it up, and got hit and Ohio recovered the ball. For crying out loud Antonio, just jump on the damn ball!!! It’s a fumble, we need the possession, don’t just stand there and look at it, cover it up for crying out loud! Charles was at fault, but Smith could have helped us there too.

+1, 2 dropped punts did not lose that game tonight.

Thats a shame about Corey.

And for what it's worth, my friend shooting video at the game had that fumble play they ruled not a fumble for OU at the end on tape...the ball was out before the knee hit the ground. His footage was in with all that was reviewed so I assume there was something else...maybe the ball was dead before that?

Complaining about a lost cause really, but just saying!

Metz, I disagree. If you were in the stadium, you could feel the energy after the touchdown to make it 35-27. You could REALLY feel it once we stopped Ohio 3-and-out. You just KNEW we were going to come back and tie the game on the next drive and possibly win in overtime. And then, just like that, Charles fumbles (after he had done it once already in the game!!!) and all the air is let out. We lose. If Charles doesn't fumble the ball, maybe we don't win, but we certainly force overtime. And also, the reason I'm going so hard on him is that he messed up something so basic, twice! It's not like catching a punt is hard. And don't give me "big game pressure" bullshit either. If you're feeling the pressure, call the damn fair catch.

I have to disagree with you here. Saying we are def. going to force ot needing a TD and 2 point conversion is anything but a given. And catching a punt is anything but easy especially on a cold windy night. Not an excuse but I'm just saying.

I was in the stadium but I'm not a psychic...I have no idea what is going to happen at any given time. The way things had been going all night, I think I felt more like BG was about to f up again to be honest.

None of us have a "right" to call out Zach Charles, but we do have a right to call out a coaching staff that has no other or better options, and have a team that continually goes "downhill" as the season progresses!!!!!!!

I have missed one home game in more than twenty years, and have attended more than 50% of away games over that period, but I may just find a good high school game to attend next Friday night! I am completely fed up with the direction of this team and lack of improvement during the season.

You are correct. That one was Smith. My bad.

But that begs the question, if the coach was smart enough to not send Charles out there again after muffing one, what the heck were they thinking putting him back out there in the fourth quarter with the game on the line???
