Our long lost friend is back, Mr. Attendance

Happily, this is probably the first post this year on the topic in relation to meeting the 15,000 average. But sadly, after our last two home games, we’re sitting right on the fence again. Through four games, we’re averaging 15,368. We had some decent turnouts in our first two games with 16,482 for Temple (home opener) and 20,622 for Western Kentucky (Homecoming) but we followed that up with only 11,602 for Ohio (in a critical MAC game) and 12,766 against Akron (on a Friday night). The good thing is our last game is against Toledo which obviously we usually draw well against. However, the game is over break for the students, the day after Thanksgiving, it’s also on TV, and Mother Nature is always a wildcard (remember our last home game in 2006 against Miami?). I just hope we put out the same effort that we did for the Miami game last year in terms of tickets and attendance for the Toledo game this year in order to ensure we stay above the 15,000 line we are now hovering over.

the toledo game doesnt matter....all the toledo fans allways come down

this game needs to be MOVED UP!

Non issue. The Toledo game will have a good crowd.

the timing of the toledo game bums me out. i go up north over thanksgiving every year and thus couldn't watch the games a few years ago, then they move them back and i could go...all was right in the world, now they moved em again so that not only can i not be there, but i doubt i'll even be able to watch it on tv.... add the insanely early kickoff time and now i know for SURE i won't be able to watch it. i'm bummed.

as for others, i think the early kickoff will hurt attendance....i always think its ill-advised to have early kickoffs, but even more so when its a big game like this

I like having the Toledo game at the end of the year. But now that MAC crossover games are almost like non-conference games, I almost wonder if it would be better to play it earlier in the year. I remember we did it in the mid-90's that way and we had some great crowds fro some of them.

I'm not that up to date on things but I thought I read somewhere where the MAC attendance issues were taken care of last year for a couple years. That is the 15,000 number was met for all schools and wouldn't be looked at again for two or three years. Am I crazy? And more to the point, am I crazy about that?

It's pretty evident to me that playing the Toledo game at the end of the year helps our overall attendance average for the season.

Incentally, here are some past crowds for Toledo:

Instead of complaining about this, like people always seem to do, why don't some people go out and bring some friends to the game. Get some people who haven't been to a BG game before or in a long time and get them to come to the game. It will do two things, 1. pad attendance, make some people sort of happier and 2. maybe make some new fans, helping future attendance!

Let's not forget the actual attendance, announced attendance, and paid attendance issue from last year. On second thought...

I was going to say that as well. You can't go by the number in the boxscore. IIRC, the number used for NCAA purposes was lower than that published number.

H2O, you're not crazy in regard to the attendance issue. I think you have to qualify (that is, average 15,000) every two of three years.

Each school is supposed to hit 15,000 every other year. If not... well, that doesn't appear to have happened yet in the MAC.

But the point is moot. We got that average last year, and we'll get it this year. If we don't draw more than 15,000 for Toledo, I'll eat a bug.

If you know someone that is a UAW member they can get you a good deal on tickets for the BG/UT game. It seems in the past the union has always purchased a big block of tickets for a UT game but earlier this year they discovered Toledo Tom is also known as Toyota Tom so they've worked out a deal with BG instead.

I agree with Schad that this is a non issue. It may be a Friday, but most people don't work the Friday after Thanksgiving. I think it will be a well attended game, even more so if the next two games are wins.

I am pretty excited about the timing this year. If I remember correctly this will be the first UT game I have been able to attend since 1999.

My brother got me tickets for last years embarassing loss at UT. I think I paid $3 for the ticket. Turns out it was too expensive for what I saw, but who knew!
