Yeah, it's been tough on the D. I thought it would be the strength of the team this year.

Still games left to make a statement.....

They need to lay the wood these next 2...

Well....I guess at this point it all comes down to "put up or shut up".

Eh, what can you say?

They need to improve. They know it. Now it's time to do it. I won't hold my breath.

Personally if that note book only had one word on it, I think it'd go a long way towards fixing the defense: "TACKLING" Our line gets pushed around quite a bit, but they're undersized and our depth is shot to hell by injury. That happens. But it's very annoying that when we finally do get our LBs to the ball carrier they struggle so mightily in actually bringing them down. The same goes for our pass rushers ability to finish when they hit the QBs.

With our DL as beat up as it is we'll never be a dominating defense. A little fundamental tackling would go a long way towards correcting it, though.

I agree, this article hits the nail right on the head. There's no beating around the bush about it, it's put up or shut up time.

Hammb, I think you are right. We can score, we just need the defense to be decent for us to win. Dominating would be nice, but occasional stops and we're in good shape. And we tackle really poorly.

Or in Coach Brandon terminology, we're not 'salty.'

I agree as well. I'd love to see this D dominate opposing teams like the 2001 D did. But as long as we can get some stops, I think we can score on anybody these days.

The tackling? We all know that needs to improve. I noticed the Ball State D players wrapped pretty well last night. Parmele goes down just like any other back when ya WRAP THE ANKLES!!

Even with our flaws, this team can finish strong at 8-4 and head to the post season...and that has me totally jacked. I thought 7-5 was a real possibilty this year and anything better was gravy. I really like gravy.

As much as we need to stop the run, we also can't forget about the pass either. UB QB Drew Willy is completing nearly 70% of his passes this season as this little nugget of info was in The Buffalo News: Junior quarterback Drew Willy has thrown 159 consecutive passes without an interception, a span of 23 quarters. WOW!!!

From what I've seen of UB, though, much of his statistical glamour is a mirage. Their offense seemed to be dink and dunk passes where they could only work effectively if the run game is working well. If we slow down the run, I don't see any way for Drew Willy to lead the team to a victory with that style of offense.
