Las Vegas Bowl?
in Saturday's Blade - Ryan Autullo indicated that the Las Vegas Pioneer Bowl was a possibility along with the obvious GMAC and International Bowls. He did NOT mention Motor City Bowl - is this just a "switch mistake" or is there any "rumors" out there about the Vegas Bowl?
the 92 Vegas Bowl was a blast to play in - would LOVE to be a spectator this year!

Re: Las Vegas Bowl?
I'm guessing the MCB isn't mentioned because it's the "top" MAC bowl, and will most likely go to the MAC Champ. game winner, and definitely will, I think, if CMU wins.FalkinCruiser wrote:in Saturday's Blade - Ryan Autullo indicated that the Las Vegas Pioneer Bowl was a possibility along with the obvious GMAC and International Bowls. Re: Las Vegas Bowl?
I doubt it's a mistake. If Central Michigan wins one more game -- either their final regular season game or the MAC championship -- they've got to be Motor City bound. It is not worth talking about the possibility of Bowling Green playing in Detroit, because it's about zero.FalkinCruiser wrote:in Saturday's Blade - Ryan Autullo indicated that the Las Vegas Pioneer Bowl was a possibility along with the obvious GMAC and International Bowls. On the radio, they said International Bowl scouts were in Buffalo yesterday. I think that's probably our destination if we get a bowl game. I figure Miami goes to Mobile unless they stumble and become ineligible.
But the MAC could have four teams with seven wins this season (Ball State would need to finish with a win at Northern Illinois), and that could be the scenario for the Las Vegas Bowl getting involved here.
The Las Vegas Bowl gets first pick from the Mountain West and either fourth or fifth pick out of the Pacific 10 (I'm guessing fifth pick this year, judging by the way the bowls are listed in the Pac 10 football media guide).
Ryan is probably working from scuttlebutt that suggests the Las Vegas Bowl could come up short on Pac 10 teams.
Here are the Pac 10 bowls and some hypothetical assignments, based on the records of Pac-10 teams:
Rose: Arizona State (6-1, 9-1)
Holiday: Oregon (5-2, 8-2)
Sun: Southern California (5-2, 8-2)
Emerald: Oregon State (5-3, 7-4)
Las Vegas: California (3-5, 6-5)
Armed Forces: Either UCLA (4-3, 5-5) or Arizona (4-4, 5-6), if they become eligible.
For the Las Vegas Bowl to become open on the Pac-10 side, both of these scenarios would need to play out:
1. UCLA and Arizona lose out and are not eligible.
2. A second BCS game, in addition to the Rose Bowl, selects a Pac 10 team.
What throws me, a bit, is how the MAC could work its way into this game. The Big Ten would seem to have a ton of teams available. Question is: In an at-large situation, does a 7-5 or better MAC team have to be taken before any bowl can look to 6-6 team in a conference with which they don't have a contract?
That might be the case. I'm not sure.
Or, maybe the Big Ten is cutting deals for its bowl-eligible teams in other locales.
Re: Las Vegas Bowl?
That is the case, for an at-large bid all teams with winning records must be selected before a 6-6 team can be picked. That's how Middle Tenn. got in the MCB last year ahead of some 6-6 BCS schools.Schadenfreude wrote: What throws me, a bit, is how the MAC could work its way into this game. there were NO representatives from the GMAC bowl @ the BG/UB game ( "F" the GMAC Bowl ).
Vegas Bowl would be a good fit for BG I think. I just get concerned in the "beauty contest" that has been mentioned in where Ball State has a "name" player in their QB. I would take TS over that punk any day anyway.
It does make a little more sense now Schadenfreude. Thanks!

What exactly qualifies the BSU QB as a "punk"? Just curious... seems like Mr. Davis has a pretty bright future ahead of him...and, if I recall correctly, we once pursued him rather heavily while in HS. Can't be sure but there WAS some question about grades, test scores or something... obviously, BSU got him into school, so something must've been straightened out. They DO have to live by MAC eligibility rules, do they not?FalkinCruiser wrote:there were NO representatives from the GMAC bowl @ the BG/UB game ( "F" the GMAC Bowl ).

Ugh...just checked the Las Vegas bowl website. It's on the 22nd of DEC
No way I could swing that. One of my best buds is having a Christmas Party that night then I have my great grandma's 100th b-day & family Christmas celebration on the 23rd. Unfortunately the 22nd is just not feasible for me...shame, really.
That's a real bummer, because I was getting excited hoping we could make it to that game and I could find a way to get out there. That's the one bowl game I've always wanted to see BG get into (I was too young to attend the previous LV bowls). There is no other location that I'd rather head to in Dec/Jan to watch a football game...

I highly doubt that the MAC or any other non-BCS conference is going to get an extra team to go bowling. There are already 64 eligible teams and 64 bowls, with another week of football left, that number could be added on by 5-6. I think the Int'l Bowl will give us the best exposure anyways, it is 2 days before the Nat'l Title Game, and I think most fans will want to see their share of college football before the season is officially over.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Doubtful. Last year that game had the 4th worst ratings among bowl games.jpfalcon09 wrote:I highly doubt that the MAC or any other non-BCS conference is going to get an extra team to go bowling. You can count on the Big ten dodging this bowl again if able. the only reason the tied in was to cover a worst case back up plan. Its crap and we should seek a different pairing.
Certainly those are preferable, but I probably would not be able to swing the prices for tickets to any of those games. Those would be TV affairs for me.redskins4ever wrote:Now hammb you just don't have your head on straight...
I'd love to be in Pasedena, New Orleans, Miami, or Glendale Arizona are all PREFERABLE locations.
I'd really like to watch us play in LV sometime though
