I got this email today and not sure what to make of it...Can the University really do this?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Notice of increased public parking fees for Non-Wood County residents at Doyt L. Perry Stadium on November 23, 2007

Dear Falcon Athletic Fans:

In coordination with the College of Health and Human Services – Public and Allied Health Department, the Athletic Department has increased the parking fee at Doyt L. Perry Stadium for the football game against the University of Toledo on November 23, 2007. Passenger cars driven by licensed drivers from counties other than Wood County will be charged a parking fee of $10 in all public lots surrounding Doyt L. Perry Stadium for this game only.

“I think this is a tremendous initiative and should go a long way in curbing carbon emissions” stated Professor Rober Harr, MS, MT (ASCP) – Chair of Public and Allied Health Department. “This is the first step in our department plan to encourage the use of public transportation as well as car pooling. We thank the athletic department sincerely for jumping on board!”

“We realize that this might cause some concerns, especially for Lucas County residents” stated Assistant Athletic Director Jan Myers, “but we are confident that spectators will recognize our cooperation with the CHHS and support their fight of global warming by car-pooling for this game. This should also eliminate delays when leaving the stadium.”

Drivers should be prepared to show their driver’s licenses to parking lot attendants when arriving on game day. Parking fees for prior games this year were $5 per passenger vehicle and will remain $5 for all Wood County licensed drivers.

Sincerely,
Bowling Green Athletic Department

Anyone else get this? Does this mean since I live in Summit County I now have to pay $10 this Friday???? :x I know it's only $5 extra but still. This global warming facade is going too far!!! And since when does BG have "Public Transportation"???? Please.

Oh well...I will get there early enough and get past this crap anyway! LOL!

Unreal.

What does this have to do with car pooling?

this is probably the dumbest thing I have heard of in a long time.

so I can catch public transportation from Columbus to the game?

Global warming my azz. That kinda stuff pisses me off to no end. They have the audacity to site global warming and the "need" to offset carbon emissions by this parking fee raise. Do they know that there are a huge plethora of scientists who believe that this "global warming" stuff is complete BS? Even the founder of the Weather Channel doesn't believe in it. And our AD has the audacity to state GW as complete fact with so many scientific naysayers out there. Unbelievable. Sorry for the rant, just hope nobody's plans are affected because of this. One way to beat it I guess would be to arrive real early like Freak. God bless ya man. :)

That's gotta be a hoax...didn't a bunch of UT fans try to convnce everyone that you had to park over at the Westgate shopping center prior to the game at the Ghetto Bowl in 2004?

Please tell me that the last two posts were unnecessary. In fact, please tell me, Flipper that you knew you didn't need to pose your first sentence as a question. My God, I'm from UT and I even understood it.

No worries, chaps. Tom's OK.

These days, Tom's a happy man. Tom's "in the loop". You see, Tom's hip to global warming.

No. Tom doesn't have to pay the surcharge. Tom's got a zero carbon footprint. Tom doesn't need the Jambulance. Tom's got a camel, by George, and he's going to get on his camel and ride it today!

One way to avoid the $10 carbon fee is to drive aimlessly around campus for a half hour to determine which parking lot that is not charging a fee is closest to your seats. Then you can park there, light up an outdoor heater, a gas grill and keep the engine on your car running to keep a charge on the battery while the radio is on to properly tailgate.

Enjoy.

Does a person driving a hybrid get a discount? Five bucks is NOT going to alter a person's behavior. If you really want to change behavior, charge $100.

This is no more than a moronic cash grab at the expense of alumni and visiting fans. If you want to get MORE money from parking, how about TRACKING THE PROCEEDS BETTER! I wonder how many parking funds end up in the pocket of the gentlemen volunteering for the parking duties. I would wager a majority.

I would hate to see alumni relations hurt because the uni is "nickel and diming" their alumni.

Oh please give me a break --- Global Warming?? And this assinine price hike will make a difference. Oh my, Oh my! Just face it, this is all about making bucks. The additional five bucks probably isn't gonna cause a anybody to declare bankruptcy, so just call a spade a spade and don't try to justfy it for anyother reason -- it's about making more money! -- Hell, Toledo often raises the price of their tickets depending on who is coming to the Glass Bowl. And they don't try to justify it 'cause they and eveybody else knows why they're doing it. TO MAKE A BUCK! -------- Now, if t he University would like to contribute t hat additional 5 bucks to the science community -- the research world that is concerned about "global warming," I'd gladly pay it. Otherwise, forget it.

Since I will be driving in from Fort Wayne, and because I think this new policy is just assinine for reasons stated previously, here is what my plan is:

-Origninal plans are to stop by my mom's house and pick her up and take her to the game. (Freak - gotta a little extra room on your Coleman for her burger? :D )
-Upon leaving her house, I will ask her to drive my car, WITH INDIANA PLATES, and take us to the east lot. Should be arriving circa noonish, so parking attendants will be present.
-According to protocol, they will ask for her driver's license, Wood County issued, hence $5 is all we should be required to pay?

Hopefully one of the young men will happen to glance over his shoulder and notice my out of state plates. Should this occur, the reaction will be priceless. :D
