We're in.
And if we're not, "Whatshisname from Marketing" at the men's hoops game can be hung from the bell tower. He said to keep an eye out for an announcement of which bowl sometime in the next week.

Somebody correct me on this, but I thought that if you had 6 wins, you were bowl eligible regardless if you have 7 losses (in the possible case Miami loses in the MACC)

That would be the case if they were playing a 12 game schedule. But since MiAudi is playing now in a 13 game schedule, they need to be at least .500.
They are playing for their bowl eligible lives in the MACC.

I do not believe that's the case. See page 5 of this football post season handbook:
http://www.ncaa.org/library/handbooks/f ... ndbook.pdf
Excerpt:
Deserving Winning Team
A deserving winning team is defined as one that wins a minimum of six games against Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) competition and has a record that includes more wins than losses. [Exception: Each year, a FBS institution may count a victory against a Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) opponent that has averaged 90 percent of the permissible maximum number of grants-in-aid per year in FCS over a rolling two-year period.]
Per NCAA Bylaw 30.9.2.1 an institution with a record of six wins and six losses may be selected for participation in a bowl game if 1) the institution or its conference has a primary contractual affiliation, which existed prior to the first contest of the applicable season, with the sponsoring bowl organization. In the case of a conference contractual affiliation, all conference teams with winning records must be placed in one of the contracted bowl games before any institution with a record of six wins and six losses may be placed in a contracted bowl game; and 2) all contratual affiliations have been fulfilled and all institutions with winning records have received bowl invitations (either through a contractual affiliation or as an at-large selection).
In the case of a conference contractual affiliation, all conference teams with winning records must be placed in one of the contracted bowl games before any institution with a record of six wins and six losses may be placed in a contracted bowl game. There shall be no contingency agreements with other sponsoring bowl organizations intended to enable an institution with a record of six wins and six losses to become eligible for those contests.
Football Bowl Subdivision contests played in Hawaii are exempt from NCAA legislation limiting a season to 12 games, but this competition does count in the six-win requirement. An institution that participates in an exempt contest, however, must have more wins than losses against Division I FBS opponents to be eligible to participate in a bowl game, even if it meets the six-win requirement.

Also, Ohio, at 6-6, isn't a serious contender. The MAC's bowl agreements have language that guarantee a bowl game for an eligible division winner. That helps Miami, but doesn't help Ohio.
Ohio needs something else to open up around the country -- and the problem is there are going to be quite a few 6-6 teams in the Big Six leagues also hoping for open bowl games. If you are a bowl game, and the choice is Iowa (6-6, I think) or Ohio, who do you take?
Ball State is in a much better position. If Miami loses the MAC title game, they are in for sure.
And if Miami wins the MAC championship, Ball State could still get into a bowl game depending on how things shake out today. There should be a couple of open slots. If the slot is the Armed Forces Bowl, for example, Ball State, at 7-5,
must be picked before a 6-6 team like Iowa.

There are 68 "bowl eligible" teams (at least 6 wins), with 64 slots in bowl games available. Seven wins guarantees a team will play in a bowl game; NCAA rules require that any berths in bowl games not filled by contract be filled by a team with 7 wins before any spare 6-6 team can be accommodated. This means that at least four bowl-eligible teams will not be invited to a bowl.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term bowl eligible refers to any NCAA football team that is able to play in one of the 32 bowl games that are a part of the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS; formerly Division I-A) season. In order to be bowl eligible, a team must have at least six wins, including conference and out-of-conference games, and the team must not be on probation. The NCAA allows one victory per season over a Division I FCS (formerly I-AA) team to count toward an FBS team's bowl eligibility. This prevents teams from scheduling multiple games against FCS teams in an effort to pad their win total. The term 'bowl eligible' is usually only used when referring to those teams that are eligible to play in minor bowl games, and not to those team who are competing to play in one of the five BCS bowl games.
Teams that are bowl eligible will usually either play in one of the bowl games that its conference is affiliated with based on conference tie-ins or the team will be chosen from the pool of remaining bowl eligible teams to fill one of the at-large positions.
On April 26, 2006, the NCAA announced that they were relaxing the rules for eligibility starting with the 2006 season, particularly in light of the new 12 game college football season. Now, teams with .500 records can qualify for bowl games if their conference has a contract with a bowl game. Also, teams with .500 records (i.e. 6-6) could earn bowl bids if all other FBS teams with winning records have been taken and postseason spots still remain vacant.[

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) -- Kalvin McRae rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown to help Ohio rally for a 38-29 win over Miami of Ohio on Saturday.
After Taj Henley intercepted a pass by Miami quarterback Daniel Raudabaugh with 11:42 left in the third quarter, McRae scored on a 1-yard run to cap a five-play, 19-yard drive that gave the Bobcats (6-6, 4-4 Mid-American Conference) their first lead, 21-17.
Ohio's Brad Bower completed 4 of 10 passes for 77 yards, including a 17-yard touchdown to Andrew Mooney, who also caught a 2-yard scoring pass from Theo Scott.
Cory Jones rushed for 103 yards on 25 carries for Miami (6-6, 5-2). Raudabaugh, who had a 3-yard touchdown pass to Chris Givens in the second quarter, completed 21 of 44 passes for 223 yards and two interceptions

Face it, J Crew U is in the MAC, not the Big EleveTen...If Miami loses the MACC, they are sitting at home in their dry-clean only knickers and ascots...

thanks for the clarifications
after going to football games for at least 10 years, you'd think I would've picked that up.

To play the "And if...." game a little. If we beat Miami and Ohio, as we should have, the MAC would only have 3 bowl elgible teams available. Out of 13 teams only 5 are elgible and it should be 3. Parity I guess.

Out of those 5 teams, 4 or 5 potentially will be bowl eligible after the MACC. If Central wins, then Miami is not eligible. Notice it says that teams that are 6-6 may be accepted, but if Miami loses they will be 6-7, which is a losing record. Therefore, they are out of the bowl picture.
If Miami wins, then the bowl picture gets interesting. All 5 teams are eligible then, with Miami being guaranteed a bowl spot. So, the other 4 teams will be contending for the other 2 guaranteed MAC spots, with the other 2 potentially not going to a bowl game or going into an at-large bid. I see Ohio as out of the running at 6-6, so quite honestly we are all hoping CMU wins to make things easier. Then, the only teams that will be going bowling out of the MAC are CMU, BSU, and BGSU.

If Miami loses to CMU in the MACC, wouldn't that place BGSU in running for the GMAC bowl, instead of the International Bowl... Lets hope that doesn't happen then, because the GMAC bowl is Jan 6th, the day before classes start at BGSU, and if I am not mistaken, Alabama is quite the drive... Meanwhile the International Bowl is in Toronto, a much closer game, and on jan 5th... and the drinking age is 19.....
I'd prefer the International Bowl over the GMAC bowl anyday.
And with our 8-4 record, I'm 100% possitive we'll get a bowl birth, no matter what happens in the MAC or MACC.

This was in the papers about Miami: A win would give Miami its first overall MAC title since 2003 and would assure the RedHawks of a bowl invitation. A loss would end Miami's season at 6-7.
Miami's got to win vs CMU to go bowling.
