College Football Bowl Games

Well, it seems as if the winner of the Tulsa vs. UCF game gets a better bowl game. UCF going to the Liberty bowl will generate C-USA $1.7Mil while the GMAC will add $750K towards the MAC. Regardless, the MAC will earn $2.5+Mil for the three participants in the questionalble BCS bowl structure. Jeez we need to get more sponsorship in the MAC to generate more revenue. I just hate that a quality team like BGSU and Ball State can only earn a small amount towards our conference.

Yeah, getting to a bowl that generates at least a million towards the conference would be nice, just seems we Mac teams either have no affiliation with or have no chance at getting to the ones that do. I don't know what the payout for the Int. Bowl in Toronto is but its probably not a million. The nicer thing about that Int. Bowl is that its closer and that means less travel expenses for BG to incur and put us in the red just for going bowling.

That was a primary reason for me wanting the Int. Bowl as well as shorter travel for BG fans. Having said that , a bowl's a bowl and I hope we represent well down in Mobile. Hopefully they'll have better weather down there this time.

Those numbers are grosses, not nets.

I don't know exactly how the money from the MAC's bowl games is used, but possible uses may include a travel stipend of some kind to the participating school and help for the participating school in covering ticket guarantees.

There is probably a little left over, which is then put into revenue sharing for all MAC schools. I could imagine the left over money being broken into 16 units, with each MAC school getting one unit, BG getting two and the conference keeping two for administrative expenses. But that's just me speculating, basically.

Point is, those grosses aren't worth talking about. These games don't make serious money. They simply pay for themselves, and there might be a little left over.

Conference USA is probably doing well with that Liberty Bowl tie in. On the other hand, they (or East Carolina, or some combination thereof) will be taking a complete bath on the Hawaii Bowl.
