FieldTurf in the Field House

Post by BGSU33 »

Last year after we announced we were putting FieldTurf in Doyt L. Perry Stadium we also announced that we were going to replace the Astroturf in the Field House and replace it with FieldTurf as well the following year. Does anyone know when this project is expected to start?

I remember it was a thought, but never announced that it was happening, as it was the only money mentioned was for the work done to the doyt.

I attended a camp this past July in the fieldhouse and it still had the old turf in it.

It definately still has the old turf still in it...and I have a feeling that it'll have the old turf in it this time next year.

According to Greg Christopher, the FieldTurf will be put in the Field House in May 2008, in order to avoid most of the sports who use it. At least that's what he told me at the Defiance barnstorming tour this year.

That sounds familiar. I definitely remember reading something about us putting FieldTurf in the Field House somewhere, I just couldn’t put my finger on where it was I read it or when the project was supposed to take place.

Have we even paid off the stadium's turf yet? I imagine if we haven't our GMAC payout should do it.

That would be nice to get this stuff in there. We play indoor soccer in there every weekend, and the astroturf gives you rug burn and causes a lot of static. Just walk around on it for 5 minutes, and you can't go anywhere near anything metal or else you'll get zapped.

According to Christopher the MAC level bowl bids are break even or money losing endeavors.

I was really glad to see somebody credibly finally say this. Seems to be quite the myth that you make money on bowl games. The only way we make a profit on a bowl game is if we get into the BCS games.

The turf inside Perry Fieldhouse is very rough, rough enough that you need to wear long sleeves and pants in there at all times, or else risk getting the skin rubbed right off of you. It's great that they decided to replace the inside with a fieldturf surface. What I heard from Svillefalcon today was that the athletic department will look to limit the turf room's usage once the new surface is down. How they will do that with all the intramural events that take place there, I don't really know.

The field house has always been there for general use, not for just an inside practice facility. Besides, we play intramural indoor soccer, so we are practicing.

If the project is still on schedule to be done, this should be taking place here in the next month and a half to two months.

My guess is that they'll start this at semester's end.
