Seems certain that Northern Illinois will hire Southern Illinois HC Kill (what a great name).

Sources say it's a five-year deal worth $340,000 a year. Please feel free to agree that Brandon deserves a raise now.

:D

Coach Kill wrote:"I've got a great contract, I'm in a great place, people treat me great, and I'm not out there looking for a job," Kill said. "I've never had to look for a job, and I'm not in the process of doing it now."

Of course, he went on to add "if someone calls, you have to listen", but if you want to tell me they made initial contact and a hire in a day and a half, I've got some swampland in Utah to sell ya. [/quote]

Good to see them paying for a coach. I hope this trickles down across the MAC. Our coaches' salaries in this conference are an embarrassment, and that's a big reason why we're among the worst conferences in college football.

Gregg Brandon deserves double or triple his current salary, and I'm certainly not his biggest fan.

In terms of consistent on-field prowess from top to bottom, the MAC is superior to Conference USA, the WAC, the Sub Belt, the Big Sky, the Big South, the CAA, the Gateway, the Great West, the Ivy, the MEAC, the MAAC, the Northeast, the Ohio Velley, the Patriot League, the Pioneer, the Sothern, the SWAC and the Southland, and that's just Division I.

The MAC can also more than hold its own vs. the Mountain West and still can have a 5-7 Western Michigan team walk into Kinnick Stadium and beat the Iowa Hawkeyes in a largely forgettable 2007.

Our coaches can certainly be paid more (and would if we had sold out 100,000 seat facilities and other similar revenue streams like many in the BCS) but I don't think that puts us at the bottom of all of college football.

If HC Kill is getting 340,000 than Gregg Brandon is worth an ez 500,000...proving winner

What are you talking about? Don't you realize that BG has probably the lowest athletic budget in all the Mac? If we remotely had the ability to pay a GB that amount of money he would be getting it. Then again it just occurred to me that we are one of only 2 Mac schools (WMU)in all other sports that have a hockey program competing for dollars so thats partly to explain why we don't have the dough and likely will never have that kind of dough to offer a HC.

Oh right, them too, forgot. Besides them, WMU and us, no other Mac school has a hockey program. That probably means a lot whether we want to admit it or not. All those other schools not having such a major sport like that just gives them more financial options.

I think he's referring to relative value, not the university's ability to pay. NO football coach is worth $500,000 in my opinion but given the going rates this estimate of Brandon's worth is probably not too far off.

Exactly...if a coach that has done nothing in the MAC is worth 340k than one who has actually accomplished soemthing in the conference is worth substantially more.

BTW falconboy...don't you think continuing to use that photo of LAST YEAR'S seniors (ort is it senora's?) on the women's BBall team is a bit direspectful to this year's team and REALLY disrespectful to this year's seniors?

No butts in the seats, lots of expenses to update everything, bowls that we make no cash on....GB will geta small raise at best, and if someone came knocking with 300+ he would be a fool to not take it.

You're right. It's tough to forget one of the best teams in the nation. It's tough to forget a team with a BEAUTIFUL new arena. It's understandable.
