Did you read the part in the article that said that Dr. Phil went to Tulsa and played football, was I mistaken?

If this game is nearly a sell out, how did BG do in their ticket sales? Is there the potential for the program to actually make money?

They kicked him off the team. He had all the O-linemen feeling better about themselves, taking charge of their lives and losing lots of weight.

In my mind expenses from bowl games are like "good debt" (college loans, mortgage, etc.) and worth the costs involved for the extra practices, exposure, and other non-measurable benefits that come along with participating.

I was wondering about this myself. I hope we represent well. It would be rather empbarrassing to see Tulsa's side packed and BG's side barely sprinkled with orange bodies here and there.

You mean like at the GMAC Bowl in '04? You know when it wasn't embarrasing? When our guys were holding up the trophy at the end of the game.

The article does say there are fewer than 350 tickets left. I am just wondering if that includes the schools allotment? I know bowls are good for a football program, but I would like to see the school make a little money off of it.

I don't think that you can possibly make money off ticket sales no matter what...you just avoid the loss. You have to buy all the tickets at face value, I think. So unless you're selling them at over face value to your fans you're never going to make a profit.

The payouts on these bowl games are just not large enough to hope for any sort of profit. If there is profit most of it goes to the MAC office to be divvied up among all the conference schools. We get to cover our expenses first, then the rest gets divided up among all MAC schools. We may get a higher percentage since we were in the game, but the payouts to these bowls are so small it really doesn't matter. It'll probably be close whether it even covers their expenses.

Well then maybe our team goal should be to win as many games WITHOUT making a bowl game. ;-)
