Wow. That is totally friggin' lame. I'll give Tulsa a couple of trees if these two can come up with something that actually qualifies as creative...

I actually like the idea to be honest, but for BG’s sake, if we win, the trees need planted on campus, not in a park. Our parks, and the town for that matter, have lots of trees. It’s our campus that is lacking the trees.

I see plenty of lovely trees in that photo. This is seriously the weakest politician-sports bet I've ever seen. If it doesn't involve humilation (Like the BGSU flag being raised in Bowling Green, Kentucky), then it's probably not worth it.

That picture is dated. Have you see this part of campus in the last couple months? Nearly all of those trees in your picture in front of the library and Anderson Arena are gone now. They were removed last year (I believer because of the ash borer) and more will be removed in the future. There were some replanted there but not as many was what was removed and it’s going to take many years before they grow to what was once there.

Oh. Unfortunately I am no longer a frequent visitor to BG.

And it sucks.

I've got a pic I took after the Temple hoops game of AA walking back from the Commons area. It took me four or five looks at the picture to realize why I didn't remember ever seeing AA from that angle before. It's cause the trees are gone. Made for a great pic, though!

I think it would be cool to make the trees into a sort of trophy in the town and at the University. Of course, we have to win 'em first.

Sadly, many of the few (ha ha, if that even makes sense) trees on campus have been cut down over the years or will be cut down in the near future. This has stemmed from campus construction, widened roads, wind damage, unhealthy trees, the ash borer, etc. I’m not saying we don’t have any trees, but compared to many other similar type campuses, we have far less. Honestly, I have been to over 100 college campuses across the country with many of these visitations stemming from traveling to universities and colleges through my previous job, and others I have visited on my own. For a “college town” campus such as BG, we have few trees compared to other schools. Similar sizes campuses in the state such as Miami or Ohio, there’s no comparison. Even schools like Akron, which was a lot of cement a decade ago, has planted over 30,000 additional trees, plants and shrubs as part of its Landscape for Learning project, and that is an urban campus. Small campuses such as Oberlin, or large ones like Ohio State, they all have a lot more trees than BG does per green spaces.

What’s literally funny is Bowling Green used to be a forest, it was covered in woodland. After the swamp land was drained, the greater area was cleared out for farming because of the fertile soil and the rest is history. The town of BG actually has a good bit of trees, especially west of town. BG (the town) is actually designated a tree city. The city park also has many trees. And I love the way the college green in front of University Hall looks. It’s one of the few areas on campus where you actually have a wooded place. Most of the rest of campus has trees staggered here and there which slowly seem to be dwindling. Yeah, I’m a tree hugger, I admit it. I still remember getting pissed off as a student watching the trees come down on campus to make way for East Hall. My wife and I are actually looking into a way to get a project underway to help raise money to get more trees planted on campus. Something like “Put the Green in BG,” a fundraising effort to seek donations for such a project. Hopefully it’ll get off the ground one day with some advanced planning. Our campus has so much potential and I think adding trees could really help the way it physically looks. Unfortunately, we lack mountains, hills or views on campus. It would just be nice IMO to have more trees. I guess I should have gone to Cal-Berkeley instead of BG. At least there, I could just sleep in the trees that I don’t want to see cut down.
