More Positives

Look, I know it's probably going to be the 'in' thing to do to trash anyone and everyone involved with football team for the next few days, but I've had a hefty dose of perspective the last week or so, and I'd like to throw a bit of optimism out here for athletics in general right now:

In general, we have what look to be pretty solid plans for a convo center and important/much needed upgrades to other facilities.

Hockey: Went #24 into a weekend series with the #1 team in the country and got a split with an impressive win when quite a few said we wouldn't sniff a point.

Women's Basketball: Put a hefty beating on Chicago St. and look to be very strong heading into MAC play. A decent chance at another Championship looks likely.

Men's Basketball: New coach and a few good wins already. We took down OU in a game that (once again) few would've honestly/realistically predicted as a W. Things look like they could be headed in the right direction.

Football: Yes, tonight sucked. A lot. But honestly we went from a 4 win team last year to a bowl team (win or loss) with the best record in the MAC and a share of the division title. We got a bunch of extra practice, time for the team to come together, more game speed experience for the younger players and CP was back and doing what he does best - playing his heart out. I know tonight it's tough to admit, but I think most of us would prefer this (even with the loss) over having ended a season like last year with no bowl game.

Honestly, I'd say sleep on it, think about how you felt at the end of last season, and then think about how much we all have to be thankful for as BG fans.

Or, I guess, go ahead and keep calling for the coach to be fired, calling out the players and generally blowing a gasket. What do I care.

Well, I slept on it, and honestly I would have preferred to have been 7-5 and possibly snubbed on a bowl berth. At least that way we wouldn't have looked like a high school team on national television. In this instance, the national exposure was a bad thing.

So why did I get berated when I said the essentially the same thing about a month ago? I said before that just getting national tv exposure is not a good thing in of itself. If you represent yourself well its great if you put up the mindblowingly bad performance we gave last night how is being in a bowl good. The reason I gave for not wanting us in a bowl game THIS year is because I didn't feel we were any where ready for one in team strength or preparedness at all. I didn't want potential recruits seeing this pathetic display and thinking twice on whether going to BG is the right move. You can't honestly believe that being on ESPN and getting our butts handed to us on a platter by Tulsa is a good thing for recruiting. Extra practices are not worth it and the exposure of such ineptitude is definitely not worth it. I absolutely could not believe what I was seeing last night.

In all honestly , I was over it about 20 hrs ago. I throw up my hands. I guess were just gonna have to get used to this.

You're right. We should never shoot for a bowl appearance again in case we lose.

THIS is why you get replies like you do. Besides, if I remember the final standings correctly, 7-5 would still have had us bowling, with only 3 MAC teams eligible.

I still feel blah about the whole experience, but I still want to see BG in bowl games EVERY year. The team that showed up for four games in November makes that a game. That team apparently stayed at home.
