Recruiting Impact?

How does everyone think that the bowl game performance will change out recruiting? Will being in the bowl help the class? Or will having the national stage and doing THAT hurt and lose kids? Just wondering if there have been any situations like this in the past for other schools, and how their recruiting suffered/succeeded due to the GMAC outcome.

I would guess (barring GB being fired) that the impact on recruiting would be minimal. For every time another MAC school tells the potential recruit, "Hey Jimmie, did you see BG play against Tulsa - that sure was embarrassing huh?"
BG coaches will be saying "Hey Jimmie, did you see how we were playing on ESPN in a bowl game? If you come here I am sure you will help us take care of the NEXT bowl opponent. "

Most kids going to MAC schools aren't getting many better offers. They think-"Geez (or similar language) if BG made a bowl and sucked that bad the rest of the league must really suck. I'd better stick with BG". Or they decide to go elsewhere in the MAC or similar league. Doubt that it will have much impact at all. I sincerely hope that everybody BG is recruiting jumps ship but I don't see it.

What about guys like OL Blaine Schafer that is considering BG and several other MAC schools? Do you think that performance last night sits well with him as he considers which program he wants to get involved with for the next four years of his life?

I think our friend was thinking more along the lines of what is going to happen to the few higher end recruits we might be trying to or have pulled in.

I think Blaine takes one look at last night's performance and says "Toledo, here I come!"

That and if any verbals would back out. I mean, it is just a verbal, and as seen in recent Notre Dame recruiting, they don't hold much weight. None of these guys have signed LOI's, so they could easily so "just joking" and go elsewhere.
But i get the point that many of these guys aren't going to go "man, they blow, i'll go to a better school" because if a "better" football school was offering, odds are they would have already verbal-ed there.
Just hope these guys who have verbal-ed to play at BG keep their word, because we have a beast of a class, namely the OL.

Are you saying Blaine is not a "higher end" recruit?

That seems to be what he is saying. I know UT would be happy to have him.

I don't feel this would hinder recruiting. When OSU lost big last year it didn't hurt them. More athletes watched that game as well.

I don't think that is what he meant. Blaine will a big contributor to the next "Block of Granite". It will be nice to have another hoosier

Hoosier is capitalized. Lots of my family are Hoosiers. You guys just keep insulting Blaine. And some of you insulted Blaire as well. I think Blaine needs to come to UT.

H20, good one. I forgot how perfect you are with your posts.

Since I am not an original Hoosier (is that better?) I think of that obnoxious school in Bloomington. Don't forget Doug Bair as well. Toledo needs to hire you for recruiting.

Perfection is the norm for those with a UT edjication.
