My dad called me to inform me that AG has decided to transfer to Delaware St. The article will be in today's (Saturday's) Blade. Pankratz from Nordonia has given BG a verbal and he will be with the team this fall. I'll link the Blade article once it gets put online.

Which explains the JUCO quarterback, and Tyler's apparent status as a firm #1. If you had told me this a year ago, I don't think I'd be shocked at all. At this point, the shock factor is slightly above 50%.
Best of luck to AG.
As for Pankratz, I like this kid already.

I guess AG told Brandon before the GMAC Bowl that he wanted to play. GB obviously told him Sheehan was starting, and that AG would not see likely starting time until he was a fifth-year senior. AG got his wish, obviously when the game was well in hand, but I'm not surprised one bit by the decision. One wonders if Nate Brown will take the same path if things don't work out well.

Here is the article:

It also mentions two JC players coming over. Is this new news? I couldn't find anything on Casey McHugh, but here is some info on Robert Lorenzi.

And DJ Young has pulled a Brandon Mack and moved to OT. Deep breaths falconboy...deep breaths...
Getting a JUCO QB makes even more sense now. in 2005 when Omar got hurt all we had on the bench was a redshirt freshman and true freshman Freddie Barnes....and Van Johnson who never really settled into a position here.

Dangit and I really liked AG. Mainly because of the play calling that we did while he was in the game. But still, I think this is a fairly big loss.

Here's a link to a youtube video of Robert Lorenzi...nice looking player. Tough to gauge his speed because you don't know about the level of competition, but he breaks well on the ball...changes direction well...turns his hips well coming out of a backpedal and even though he's a bit on the small side, he has some hops and it looks like he can time his leaps well (gets at the ball at it's highest point).

And Zach Charles is going to Del St as well.
Being honest, I am pissed about the O-line situation. I said it last year at this time that we needed to get some O-lineman in here because of what we would lose after the 07 season. But we signed, what, 1 guy last year? Now we have to bring in JUCO players and move guys across the line to try to patch something together.
The last two years our def line has been thinned out with injuries. So now we have to dig into what little depth we have there and our biggest D-lineman goes to offense because that side of the ball is completely void of any depth.
I swear Brandon must have a chart by weight to determine positions. If you get over 280, you have to play OL. 240-280 can play DL. Any DB that gets over 200 gets moved to LB. It's ridiculous.
And I will guaran-damn-tee you that if we have any problems on offense next year it will be because "we are real young on the line and those kids make mistakes" and "we just don't have depth on the def line and those injuries have forced us to play kids who aren't ready".

This kid doesn't look too bad. Kind of reminded me of a little Zbikowski (sp?) by the way he returned those INT's. Maybe we could use him on ST's for starters.

This is now a GREAT situation for a guy like Nate Brown to step up and embrace the opportunity to show what he can do. With Glaud leaving, this is another reason I was disappointed to see that thread start up about whether Nate Brown should transfer or not. The answer is no. This means the door could be wide open for Brown to battle for the #2 spot and get some playing time this upcoming season as a red-shirt freshman with four years ahead of him. Sheehan has only two years left and has battled injuries on more than two occassions this year. We need a guy like Brown here at BG. Glaud leaving would also explain why we're looking at JUCO QB's.
I'm always sad to see anyone leave BG early, especially contributors like Glaud and Charles.

Idon''t think the OL criticism is entirely fair...Dodge and Bojicic were recruited as OL last year and Johnson and Burrell were recruited with "open" status...they could wind up on either side of the ball.
They went heavy on OL in 2005...but Pollard, Mahoney and Williamson left. Not sure how you can foresee that. They signed one pure OL in 2006 and converted a DL guy from that class and signed at least two more in 2007. We lose a lot this year and they're signing a lot of OL this year...it would be nice to have signed alot of guys before that to build "ready depth" , but you can't devote that many schollies to OL. So...I don't think they ignored the positions, but when you have a group like we did that plays alot over four years and graduates together, it can be tough to build and hold depth because kids want to go where they can play and you can't keep 20+ OL guys on schollie.
So far as size goes...they do seem to prefer the OL to be bigger and the DL smaller, but that's not unique to BGSU

Interesting thing about Pankratz, and someone I met recently said we'd been recruiting him hard.... is that NOTHING has appeared in the PD to "verify" this so far, at least as far as I know... but He comes from the same HS as Dan Macon, my "Hometown" HS, Nordonia. And he put up some nice numbers as the Knights moved into D-1 this year for the 1st time.
That said, the QB from Cal. looks like he can run at least a little bit...and seems VERY hard to bring down from the highlights...He's a BIG Josh Harris in that regard, but perhaps a better overall passer. Frankly, I'm not too upset with Zach Charles leaving the program as I feel he was a BIG disappointment after all the hype about his speed etc. Just never seemed to get untracked... Pattern running problems?

There are 22 positions in football (not counting kickers). You have roughly 22 scholarships available each year. Would it not make sense to recruit four or five offensive lineman each year? Yes you can't foresee that players will leave. But you know it happens. And if you recruit seven guys to play five positions, don't you think one or two will end up leaving because they know they don't have a shot? But we still only signed 1 true OL recruit last year when we knew we had five guys leaving, which was ridiculous. OL is the one position where virtually everyone redshirts. So you know you can't expect to go out and sign guys this year and expect them to play in the fall.
To make matters worse, we knew we would only have about 12-15 scholarships available this year, yet we are spending about half of them on OL. How many good players are we missing out on this year because we HAVE to get some OL this year?

Yes, but most places don't make DTs switch to offense simply because they are big. Also, our run defense is awful. Ever think that might be becausee they are undersized?
I remember Brandon saying when we signed Young that he was a Big Ten type player. I am sure that he didn't mean as an offensive lineman. So what's the deal?

Yeah, I'm with you Warthog, this OL and DL situations is a mess. I guess were' gonna have to get used to our D-line getting dominated game in and game out cuz I see know end in sight the way GB raides the d-line for O-lineman. Its a vicious cycle that was started way back when those 3 o-lineman left that were poised to be either in the starting positons or 2 deep.I hope GB keeps looking for Dt's as well cuz we keep fallling short of guy every year with an injury or two. Davis can't seem to stay healthy now Young is 0-line and we'll have to keep playign more and more freshman to fill the spots. Its insanity.
If it were me I'd just play the two studs from Middletown a bit early and keep guys like DJ on D.

You have to count kickers...and long snappers as you usually hav one or two kids aroiund on scholarship to do that. You are limited to 85 by the ncaa. take out the kickers and the snappers and you probably have 80 at the most, That averages to about 20 a year to spend on positions. Kids can blow out and flunk out and just plain leave...so simply figuring on being able to recruit static numbers for each position ieach year is simply an unrealistic expectation.
Given that reality, having 15-17 scholarship OL guys around at any time seems about right...that gives you three deep plus a few walk ons for depth. I don't think we've fallen below that number over the last few years..if we have, it wasn't by much. The OT's are a bit inexperienced...I don't think that's too suprising given the fact that we are graduating two very good seniors who played well and stayed injury free.
DJ Young is getting moved? I don't have a problem with that...maybe it will put some life into him. He certainly hasn't been the factor he might have been at DT. With Davis, Barrow, Ream and Toresso there, I don't know how much of a factor he was going to be.
So far as your idea that Brandon moves people based solely on weight...you aren't actually serious about that are you? You have a tendency to reach a bit in your criticisms of the coaching staff....but even this is a tad far for you.
If you're that concerned about it...show up at the sigining day reception. Brandon fields questions from the attendees. I'm sure he'd be happy to address your condcerns over height weight and hell....maybe he'll even get into shoe size discussions with you if you ask nicely
