THE Goal for the 2008 season....

"I've already thought it through a little bit," Brandon said. "It's very similar to the team we had [in 2005]. We haven't arrived by any stretch. Sure we had the best record in the league, but the one thing that's eluded us since I've been here is an outright MAC championship. We've done everything else that you can do at a MAC school except just flat win it outright. I think that's a great thing to stress with these kids."

Coach Brandon's words in the Blade.

1992 was waaaaaaaaaaay too freakin long ago. The MAC title is a must in 2008. I expect to win the MAC Championship in 08....

Not trying to be a pain in the butt, but shouldn't the goal for every season be to outright win the MAC Championship?

Yes, it should be. Thanks for being a pain. I think what Coach B is determined to do is GET that elusive hardware.

Best of luck to Coach Brandon and his well thought out goal. *groan*

Along with BG, the MAC is loaded next year so it will be no easy task.

The goal is always the same:

Play two post-season games and end the year with a 3-0 run.

Some years it's realistic and some years it isn't.

Go BG!

The MAC is going to be a much stronger conference next year for sure, based on the fact that many teams were young and developing the last two years. This is especially true at the QB position, with guys like Nate Davis, Dan LeFevour, Tyler Sheehan, and Aaron entering their 3rd years. The bigger question to me is will some of these defenses improve? Our conference didn't have one good defensive unit in 2007, Miami's was probably the best, but even they got torched for 30+ a few times.

If I had to guess, the East Division will probably come down to Miami and Bowling Green, just as it did in 2007, with Buffalo and maybe Temple having outside shots at it. Ohio lost too many guys to contend, Kent stinks, and Akron is going to be downright horrible. Central Michigan and Ball State will battle it out for the West Division title, but Toledo will be worth a bet as well.

Every year though, there's at least a certain team or teams that surprises, so its very hard to predict.

I would think Temple & Bowling Green are favored next yr to win the east. BG is at Temple next yr, & Temple has all 11 starters back next on D. Temple also had the best D in the MAC last yr.

They did? Better than Miami? If that's true than pardon my previous statement. If Temple accomplished that despite the 48 points BG hung on them in September, that's pretty good.

If Temple is going to win the East next year, they are going to need to do it on defense, because plenty of teams (BG included) can put loads of points on the board.

Having the best defense in the MAC is like being the hottest chick at a Star Trek convention.

Not to hijack the thread away from the eye candy, but anything short of a MAC Championship this year will probably mean a lack of payday for Brandon. We have the skills this year, he just needs to get us there.

When he says "outright" MAC title, is he somehow implying that we ever shared a MAC title since he's been around? That's obviously impossible.

Before he talks about 2008 goals, is it official yet that he's not being fired?
