Statistical study on overtimes in the NFL

I'm just having one of those days today. I can't seem to concentrate on writing the grant I need to finish. Instead, I'm browsing the web looking for interesting subjects and ran across this little study. The NFL is looking for ways to overcome the bias where the team that wins the coin toss wins statistically more often in sudden death. They've recruited some statisicians who suggested a team must score 6 points in overtime, which reduces the odds that the team that wins the coin toss wins the game, but it also results in more ties. Thoughts?
