OK...let's commence with the typically bifurcated "these guys are awesome/no they're too small, too slow, too heavy at one position" posts

At least the "recruit more from Ohio crowd" willl be happy...unless we've hit Ohio too heavily this year....

BTW...I'm thinking Beam is our QB this year.

For at least today, Adrien Spencer is my new favorite Falcon...

"I got along really well with the players - that was a factor because I'm going to spend the next five years with them," Spencer said. "I love the campus, how everything's not too big or overwhelming. I just like how Bowling Green is on the rise. I know they had a tough bowl game, but I feel like they're on the rise in the MAC."

Watching that Beam video...that kid can flat out throw the deep ball.

Tyler is still the man until someone takes his job...but Beam looks pretty damn good.

O line recuits...all sound great. Signing Day should be a national holiday.

GO FALCONS

BTW, Nick Tuminello, DE from Boardman. Anyone know if he's the brother of Chris Tuminello, who was a solid center at UT a few years ago? H2O or RF?

Me too.

From what I can tell in the highlight video the kid can run & throw, which works well with our scheme.

I also don't think you go out and get a juco QB unless you're thinking that he has a chance to start right away.

Personally, I don't think Sheehan played well enough consistently to have the spot locked up. He played better than I anticipated he would, but he was inconsistent enough that I don't think he's got the spot locked up.

I really think Beam ends up starting next year.

I also think Beam ends up starting. He just looked really poised and strong in the pocket and new when to run and get really good yardage when the pocket did break down. He definitely more agile and mobile than Sheehan and he's bigger. Beam's arm strength definitely impressed me in that video and I didn't even watch the whole thing.

Geez, tough crowd. Sheehan is an All-MAC player who threw for over 3,200 yards with a 63% completion percentage and 23 touchdowns. You go the JUCO route because your top backup just transferred and your only other scholarship quaterback is in his second semester of college.

Beam looks like a great talent and will surely be given a shot to supplant the incumbant like every other incoming player, but I'd be absolutely shocked if Sheehan wasn't starting.

Of course Sheehan could start. No one's saying Sheehan is done but he's gonna be pushed real hard by Beam in spring and fall practices for the starting job no doubt. With what little I've seen just from that video this Beam kid has the tools to start day one and also seems to have more athletic ability which fits our offensive scheme better and thats why it wouldn't shock me in the least if he beats out Sheehan.

It's just a difference of opinion: I'm quite certain Sheehan will start while you think Beam will.

I like Beam a lot and hope he has a fantastic career, but I'm not ready to write off an entire year of All-MAC caliber play based on a grainy highlight tape off the internet.

It wasn't that grainy :-) besides...I think Beam is more of a running threat and it looks like he has the abilty to power it downfield with some accuracy. Tyler has a great arm for zipping those short and intermediate balls in there on a line, but he is very spotty going deep downfield. I know there's only a couple of vids of Beam online to review, but he seems to have the more accurate arm.

Tyler didn't seem to handle the pressure to well at times last year..that might be a function of his being a true soph...or it might not....

Yeah, the deep ball throws by Beam in that vid is what impressed me a lot. They were all very accurate even on the deep bombs to the endzone. The deep ball is where I think Sheehan comes up a short on.

Tyler played against the MAC and the likes of MSU, Boston College and Minnesota. Beam is seen playing against California Junior Colleges. Lets save the anointing oil until this Fall.

F Boy,

You still haven't responded to my query about your original comments of about a month or so ago re: QB openings...when you stated that Beam looks like a "pocket QB" and we already have one of those" or something similar...now your tone has changed...Didn't you look at the video the FIRST time it was posted? (since you haven't watched the whole thing THIS time either?)
Sometimes I read your comments and wonder if you're really from (or on) another planet from the rest of us.

Here's a link to a pretty cool site for Ohio kids....there's video on all of the HS OL recruits. They all seem to be very agile for 300lb's. German really gets upfield to the second level nicely...Walker and Robinson pull REALLY well for kids that weigh 340 and 315 and Stevens is every bit as mobile as German AND he seems to have a bit of a mean streak...that kid is looking for someone to put a lick on right up to the whistle on just abut every play.

I like that quality in a lineman...so long as they don't do anything cheap like that WKU punk that injured Davis

Derek Anderson vs Brady Quinn, anyone?

Tyler is the man. He's been in the system for longer and showed a lot for a soph QB.

Beam looks great on tape, but if you put a Sheehan tape together, I bet it is just as impressive....maybe even more considering the competition.

I thin that Andrew "Laser" Beam looks great and I love his skills from the tape (love watching him run), but we only have like 15% of the whole picture and it is the good parts.

I think youth is definitely a factor. Look at the improvement he made from Year One (as a true freshmen) to Year Two. Get another off season under his belt and he should continue to progress even more. The team as a whole was overwhelmed three times against Miami, BC and Tulsa, but he performed masterfully a ton of pressure situations he did face: Minnesota OT and the four must-win games at the end, including UT.

IMO Tyler is a great QB. If Beam can win the job it means we have a *really* great QB. Either way, BG wins. Having Ransom back should balance things out a little as well so they don't have to do everything.
