Steffy has been mentioned before.... big O-lineman...my question is why our coaching staff has allegedly mentioned 14 verbals already, yet only 3-4 are listed as verbals on most of the recruiting sites... are we trying to keep things secret? I know we can't "officially" announce names, but the kids and/or their coaches usually announce intentions to the local papers... In NE Ohio, for example, NO player has been mentioned in the Cleve. PD so far... It seems that the SW area of the state is LOADED with good teams + kids this year, and we DO have a couple from that area mentioned...

61, we do indeed have approx. 14 verbal commits in football. There are a number of reasons why we only "know" 4 or 5 names. First, many high school athletes and their families keep these thoughts relatively private particularly during their season/HS playoffs to keep attention on their team and not on an individual. Other times people just plain don't believe in a big public statements- though local folks often have heard about the kid's decision. Even in today's high tech world, some short "announcements" are missed especially in areas well away from BG.
Certainly, at times, not having certain commits' names in the public does benefit ongoing recruiting. At the offensive skill positions in particular (QB for example), knowledge of a certain player's commitment to a school might discourage a player being recruited for the same position to commit behind him. I'm not saying all kids/parents think this way, but some do. This is not as applicable at OL/DL obviously where many players are needed.
Media scrutiny on BG's recruiting still falls far short of the intense desire for info you see at OSU, Georgia or Michigan. Doesn't mean fans like us aren't hungry for it and doesn't mean we haven't got a fine group of good to great commits- I just mean that the digging for this information by many multiple sources is not as intense for BG's kids at this time.
But it is getting more and more interesting to follow our recruiting!
Watch for Bluffton (OH) High School's Michael Ream (DE/TE). This kid may become a Falcon. Good sized athletic guy coming from a winning program.
Go Falcons!

Does anyone know if we've called Javon Ringer yet?
He's the RB that played with Turner last year, and is supposed to be PHENOMENAL. The kicker is that he wants to go to OSU...big time. He bleeds scarlet & gray, but he has yet to get a scholarship offer. He has offers from the likes of Florida already, but I see nothing about BG on any of the recruiting sites.
He has shown absolutely no interest in any of the schools other than OSU. I'm just wondering if he wants to stay in state, and OSU doesn't finally offer, why wouldn't he want to come play with his boy Turner!? From all accounts this kid could come in, RS (he is currently injured, so a RS would help him), and then start for 4 years. Many on the OSU recruiting board are begging OSU to offer him, and they cannot imagine why they haven't. I hope our coaches have taken this opportunity to at least give him a call and feel him out, rather than just assume he's going to another school.
FWIW, OSU has offered him a grey shirt last I heard, and his parents said no dice on that one.

Ringer would be a great addiiton to our backfield. Landing him would be a recruiting coup on the scale of Anthony Turner.
Isn't he a touch small for OSU? Tressel seems to favor the bigger backs who can work between the tackles and run into the ass end of their OLine instead of the hole...
Per Rivals, we have offered a PK out of Ilinois who recently cranked a 58 yd FG...

Ringer is listed as a 4 * recruit by most services and is in the top 10 RBs in the country, so I would say that landing him would far surpass Turner's status. He would be the greatest "get" in BG history, as far as recruiting rankings go. I don't think we have much of a chance with him, but it doesn't hurt to call does it? I mean the kid has major offers and has pretty much shrugged them off waiting for an OSU offer. We have his former teammate here, why not give him a ring and see if he'd like to play along side him again? Ya know?Flipper wrote:Ringer would be a great addiiton to our backfield. As for size, I don't know. The freshmen that they have this year (Pittman playing Haw RSing) aren't exactly the big bruiser backs. The other backs that they're in on are a mixture of the big bruiser & speedier backs, so that's not it. I'm really not sure why they're not offering him, perhaps there's a red flag that we should be worried about, but I kinda doubt it with the other offers the kid has.
All I know is that in this one we should do our best to make OSU's loss our gain!

Hammb,
I saw Ringer play in the State Championship game against Nordonia 2 yrs ago, when he was a Soph. and he tore up the Knights...he was more impressive IN THAT GAME at least than was Turner.... He's quick, shifty and seems to be a very instinctive runner.... You're right, he'd make a great addition to our RB's, especially if Stover can't get his academics together. I'm also hoping that Dan Macon recovers from the hamstring problem soon as we have minimal depth at RB now...from 4 quality kids down to 2 is shaving it awfully thin.

Falconfan: thanks for the update on the Bluffton kid... I know that most of what you say is true...just a bit surprised..at least here in NE OHIO..that NO kid had publically verballed to BG... To me, that usually means the kid is now DEFINITE, or at least as definite as he can be in his own mind... several area kids, for example, have already committed, publically, to Akron, Indiana, Iowa etc. Let's face it, and I realize that any kid can change his mind...the one OL kid from Ill. describes his committment as "soft" i.e. unless something better (re:Clemson) comes along. But thanks for your response.falconfan1 wrote:61, we do indeed have approx. 14 verbal commits in football. There are a number of reasons why we only "know" 4 or 5 names.
