Alright guys, I called around to a few of the courses that we were discussing and I got some pricing information from various courses. I'll throw a poll in here as well to gauge interest in each course, but please don't vote in the poll unless you're legitimately interested in playing golf. I called all of these courses with the assumption that we would have 10-20 people and be teeing off around 2:30/3:00. Some rates do reflect discounts for group/time of day, so if those things are going to change suffice to know that the rates could change as well. All the rates were quoted for 18 holes with a cart.

Anyhow, here are the courses I called, google maps' distance from the Doyt, and what they told me about rates, etc.:


Riverby -- 11.1 miles from Doyt Perry. Rate is $30 if we tee off before 3:00 and $25 if we tee off after 3:00 PM.

Stone Ridge -- 3.8 miles from Doyt Perry. Rate for the group would be $35. They have other groups going off at 3:30 so he thought we would need to start our tee times at 2:30 or so to get off.

Birch Run -- 16.2 miles from Doyt Perry. Rate would be $23 if it's after 2:00 PM.

Tanglewood -- 10.1 miles. Rate is $20.

Fallen Timbers -- 19.2 miles. Rate is $20

South Toledo -- 20.8 miles. Rate is likely to be $25-30, but he wasn't positive. They're currently only $20 but if the weather gets nicer they will be going up.

White Pines -- 22.6 miles. Rate would be $30, but again if the weather gets nice this might be going up as they move towards summer rates.


Those were the courses I called, and I think all of them were discussed in the previous thread(s) on the subject. Hopefully we can get this thing put together quickly and reserve our tee times, I think it should be a pretty good time!

I'm in for sure. Are we tailgating before the game at all? In any event, we should probably shoot for a 2:00 start if we all want to get 18 in.

If the cookout idea at your place is still active Brian, I can contribute a case of Yuengling (or whatever's left of the case after football/golfing)

Even with 5 foursomes, leaving 7 hours to get in 18??? Just hit the ball, lady!

Stone Ridge sounds like a decent bet for $35... a nice course at an "average" rate and close to other festivities. I'm still finalizing my plans for the weekend, but that sounds like it would work out for me.

Hammb - I am clueless on the courses near BG.

I am not a huge fan of Stone Ridge, but I do agree with TG that it's a pretty good price that they've quoted me. I believe their typical Saturday rate is $55, so the afternoon/group/spring is giving us a pretty good discount.

Still I think my initial vote would be for Riverby because it's $10 cheaper and I don't want to preclude anyone based on price. If we find that everyone that wants to play is willing to pay the $35 I think Stone Ridge is probably the best "deal" of these listed.

I should probably have prefaced my comment by saying I've never played Stone Ridge. The rate just seems good enough to be able to try something new.

Riverby would likely be my second choice. It's a decent course and somewhat closer to my "home base" for the weekend at the folks' house.

I would go with Stone Ridge number one and Riverby number two.

What about Forrest Creason...probably nicest course in Ohio...

I believe the consensus was that many of us have played Creason so many times we would prefer to play some place else.

I voted for Riverby. Stone Ridge just seems outside my price range, although not by too much. That, and it's a little too "higher class" for my taste, although for Bowling Green, that class isn't exactly really high.

Looks like we've got 9 votes, with Tech & his son not voting. Riverby out to a slight lead, I'm hopeful that people aren't voting if they aren't planning on playing. If that's the case looks like we're already in for 11 people or so.

I'll leave the poll open for the weekend, and probably try to get the tee times scheduled on Monday.

If we've only got 3 or 4 foursomes, I would think we could get 18 in if we started at 3:00 don't you think? That would put the last group going off at around 3:45. I wouldn't anticipate there being a whole lot of people out there this early in the season, so it'll be up to us to set the pace of play. I wouldn't be opposed to starting at 2:00, but at Riverby that's an extra $5/person, so I'm not sure how that's effecting people's votes here.

J4H: I'm not opposed to having people over for a cookout or whatever at my place after the golfing, but if we're teeing off at 3:00 we'll be pushing dark by the time we finish up our last group. We may be better off heading to a bar rather than trying to grill in the dark in my back yard.

Yeah - if we only have four foursomes, 3:00 should be fine if the last group doesn't mind finishing up in twilight. I'm down for whatever afterwards.

Sunset is 8:20 on April 19. So getting done around 8 should be fine. I hope
