Mike,
As I pointed out to you during the game, Andrew Hart just played "lights out" against Goddard.. only time I saw Goddard involved in tackles is when he stunted inside, forcing a switched blocking assignment...Most times Andrew had him going way past Omar on the outside.... I was happy to be able to congratulate him on the field after the game and Laura was just beaming...as she had a right to do!

Den,

I was fully aware during the game what kinda job Andrew was doing on Goddard. All anyone had to notice was Goddard's name not being called on the PA system. I think I've seen enough football games in my time to know what matchups to keep an eye on.

The one thing I left out in the column? The TE's!! Todd Dibacco and Sean O'Drobinak have been used mainly in blocking areas but have caught some passes as well. Their special teams contributions cannot be overlooked.

Great Article!

As always, your insight into the game is fantastic! It helps those of us who are "football challenged" to understand the game a little better when I read your analysis of the games. Keep up the good work!! Maybe someone should hire you to write weekly articles for the team!!! And those 5 Blocks of Granite.....I also love the other name the Blade has given them: The BodyGuards!!!!

Good column Freak. The O-line isn't getting nearly enough credit for our fine season.

With three seniors leaving, I'm more nervous about our prospects for next year than I was at this point a year ago. (I was pretty confident about Omar).

We should probably discuss the possible two deep for 2005. But now isn't the time.

I talked to the head scout from the Pittsburgh Steelers after the game on Saturday and he predicts Scott (Ogre) Mruczkowski will be a 4th - 5th round pick in this year's NFL draft. :D

Also with so much young talent on the offensive line I believe they will only recruit a few this year. They will recruit mostly for defense this year.

Don't know how close everyone looks at the depth chart each week, but Markray has been moved from guard to tackle. That seems like a better fit given how big he is. On Saturday, Markray would come in on short yardeage situations and line up as a TE. I think that means the coaches have great confidence in his ability to pancake a defender and run behind him. :)

I hear ya...Actually I am pretty confident we will have quality players stepping in for Scott, Andy and Andrew next year. Nystrom & Markray have gotten valuable reps this year and Massey, Lanning, Watson, Huelsman, Kent, Fink, Stanford...we'll find out what these guys can do!

Every year we lose 2 or 3 linemen and the younger guys step right in and continue to shine. That is a testament to Coach Stud!

I saw a moniker for the O-line in the Blade.com that I rather enjoyed:

The BodyGuards. (Get it? BG? We're Bowling Gre.., er, nevermind.)

I'm guessing for the job they've done protecting the QB this year.

Freak:

Excellent stuff! Our O-line has done an awesome job and is one of the main reasons our offense is so explosive!
