DIVORCING OHIO STATE
I want this to make it official. I am divorcing myself from any allegiance to Ohio State.
I have many reasons for this, but I will get to those. Let me begin by saying that I am the son of an OSU alum and I have been raised on scarlet and gray. Coming out of high school the only college that I applied to was OSU, but I ended up going to community college.
Since coming to BG, it took me a while to warm up to the school given that it wasn't as flashy and well-known for athletics; however, I have come around full-circle and am one of the biggest BGSU fans that you will ever meet.
So, "BG is great, but why renounce allegiance to OSU" you may ask. Well, let me organize this as best as I can:
1. As a die-hard BGSU fan, it infuriates me to no end that many of our students are OSU fans first and BGSU fans second. This is a syndrome at all Ohio schools, I know (one of my best friends went to Kent but could care less about his alma mater if OSU is playing anyone (including Kent)). It angered me yesterday when I went to go to the bathroom at halftime and saw hordes of students heading back to the dorms to watch the buckeyes lose to Purdon't (we beat them (HA!)). It angered me last year that our fans wore BG hats and OSU shirts (or vica versa) when we played Ohio State (and many of the ones who didn't were only doing so because they are Michigan fans).
2. After going to Ohio State last year and Oklahoma this year, I realized what trash Ohio State fans are. They are rude, disrespectful and dangerous. Now, I'm not talking about the old people who love Ohio State, but the students and 20-somethings are terrible. I have never seen drunkenness at any school like I've seen at OSU. I've also never recieved such condescending looks from people after my school almost beat their school. They had just barely won but still looked at me like BG was the scum of the earth and they were soooo superior.
3. I hate the way OSU fans emphasize that they are "THE" Ohio State University, as if no other school in Ohio matters. Well, there are other schools in the state, they do matter, and some of them are in fact better than OSU, just not as big (THE Bowling Green State University). What right have you, OSU, to claim superiority over anyone?
4. I'm tired of the Ohio State and Big Ten attitude based on entitlement. OSU and the Big Ten feel as though they deserve whatever they want because, well, they're OSU and the Big Ten! That makes sense, right? They are not entitled to anything, and certainly not the devotion of everyone in the state.
Those of you on the board that are also Buckeye fans and feel that it is alright to seperate your two allegiances may take offense to this, and I am sorry if that is so. I simply do not feel the same way. If you are from Ohio and go to a school other than Ohio State, the school you go to should be the school you love. It is simply front-running in my opinion to claim allegiance to both. I hope we do play Ohio State in the MCB, and I think there is a good chance that we will, but I really do wonder how many of our fans will show up in scarlet and grey...
So, with that, I divorce thee, Ohio State. You are dead to me and all of my allegiances lie with brown and orange.
Please do note, though, that I do still hate Michigan and just about everything having to do with the entire state (except for the Eagles this week - GO EMU!). Don't worry, though, I hate Toledo even more!

Wow....that brought a tear to my eye!
I went thru this divorce years ago...my Grandpa played college basketball at OSU and growing up, they were the only team on TV (No ESPN in the 70's and early 80's broadcasting college ball). The Bucks were forced down our throats. I had to rely on scoring updates at the half for BG games...although I didn't get interested in BG football until the early 80's.
I have other relatives that attended OSU and Mrs. Freak spent 2 1/2 years as a student in Columbus (although she wears BG stuff 96% of the time!).
I have come to the point in my life where I root for OSU to lose...look what happened today in the Akron Beacon Journal...the Bucks lost to Purdue and the BJ put the Zips on the front page of the sports page...OSU? on Page 7!
When OSU wins, they take up half the front page.
Tressel ain't being worshipped like 2 years ago. The OSU program is in trouble these days.
Only Orange and Brown...period. FOR LIFE & BEYOND.

Thanks for the support guys. I was kind of afraid that I would be mauled by buckeye fans around here.
Incidentally, does anyone around here know of a good OSU message board I can throw this up on? I kind of feel like sharing this with OSU fans just for fun...

I am an Ohio State fan and a BG fan. I go to BG but I do not want to go there. I would say I am a bigger OSU fan though. I root for BG every week but same with OSU. I was mad about OSU's game vs. Purdue and yes we did beat them last year. Also the game was close last year but that is the way OSU plays. Plus that was last season!!! It's over! Stop living in the past about how we ALMOST did this last year and we beat them last year. Every team is different every year and the past does not matter at all. The past is over. Get over it! The reason I did not go there is because the campus is horrible and huge and I did not like that. Also last year when OSU and BG played I would of liked to see BG pull it out but I was realistic because OSU is in the Big Ten and we are in MAC. Hate the Big Ten all you want but they draw much better recruits and send a ton of guys to the pros. Every year the Big Ten is one of top conferences in the country and dont have attendance problems like the MAC. Wake up and realize that the MAC cannot compare to the Big Ten. Large crowds, top players in the country, top media exposure. I would like to the MAC get these things but it not ever going to happen no matter how much we would like it too.

I'm from Chicagoland, ya think I ever gave two for the Buckeyes? My parents are both NIU alums, and my sister went to U of I, so I do have soft spots for both of those schools. I admit, I still cheer for the Illini, but if they're playing each other, I've gotta go for BG. BTW, who wants to take a guess at a score if BG played U of I? It would not be pretty for Chief Illiniwek. My guess? 44-21, Jeff

Falconfreak, thank you, but I can not figure out for the life of me how to post on that site. It keeps telling me that I need to be "approved" by an administrator. What a joke. If you know how to do it, please post it for me and post the link so I can see how outraged those people get. I'd appreciate it.
While I was looking, though, I did find a thread entitled "Big Ten Bowl Projections(link below)." It had OSU in the MCB against Miami, and here is a response that is EXACTLY what I am talking about:
"Is it possible to turn down a bowl invitation? If those bowl projections pan out, I would hope Tressel or Geiger says, "Thanks, but no thanks. We are THE Ohio State Univeristy. We don't play in Motor City Bowls, or Sun, Alamo or Music City Bowls for that matter. Playing in those bowls means we had an unsuccesful season, and we would prefer to stay home."

Unbelievable. I hate them. I hate them so very, very much.
Some were more rational on the thread, but not many.

Wow, that was the most moronic drivel I have ever read in my life. If you didn't go to OSU because the campus is too big, you OBVIOUSLY like BG more. If you love OSU so much you would have gone there despite the size of the campus. You are simply a front runner, and only rooted for BG last year because you knew that OSU wasn't going to go undefeated last year.goBG wrote:I am an Ohio State fan and a BG fan. I'm sick of this. I said absolutely nothing about the MAC being better than, or even EQUAL to the Big Ten in any way. I only insinuated that our attitude in the MAC is much better. We don't feel like the world owes us everything simply becuase we exist, plain and simple. The Big Ten may get record crowds but they do it at the expense of schools like BG because of people like you, kdog.
I wouldn't mind if you just transfered and left BG to those who love it. Traitor.
