Usually about this time of year I start popping in tapes and dvds of games from past seasons...gets me thru to opening day.
Last night I popped in BG/OSU '03....stopped the tape after j5 hit Corn with the TD pass to tie it at 7. Will watch more of it this week.
81 days, 23 hours to go...

I don't know why you do that to yourself Freak. We got hosed on that fumble (Lydell Ross or Maurice Hall?).

It was Ross, and yes, yes we did.
I still wrestle with wondering if the uncalled disrobing of Janssen Patton down the sidelines negates the questionable nature of pulling that play out at that time? (Hammb, Warthog, no need to reply to the latter portion of that quesion.

Although really, in hindsight, it might not have been a bad call, the throw was there, he had a bit of a step on Gamble, and we all know what JP's hands were capable of, at least as a DB.)

I can't remember who fumbled it, but instead of having the ball around midfield, OSU was able to run a lot of time off the clock before they punted.
I was screaming at the tv. I watched that play numerous times, and Teague had the ball. I wonder what would have happened with instant replay?
A game I would love to have is the Purdue game from that year. There wasn't any TV coverage. I think the Indy tv stations and the one Lafayette station were the only ones there. Maybe TG can get ahold of some footage
When Cole took the safety to end the game, a Purdue fan behind me kept yelling "The game can't end on a penalty". How can a football fan think a safety is a penalty?

I never unstood that call either.

It wasn't a football fan, you said it was a Purdue fan.
And I'm sure I could find *some* video of the finish, but from what I looked up, I don't think it was anything more spectacular than what made the highlight rounds already.
I did find some mid-90's-ish BG-BSU hoops highlights, though...

Sure we did...everyone in the stadium knew it including the old OSU fan sitting next to me. He said, and I quote, "Son, you aren't going to get that call here even though BG recovered the ball". 'Nuff said.
Nothing is gonna change that outcome. I just like watching it and seeing 98,000 people outta 105,000 sweating bullets thinking the unthinkable was about to happen. For me, the game changed on these plays....
About a min and a half left in the first half...OSU on BG's 33 yard line, 4th and 2. BG trails 10-7. Hall busted off right guard and goes the distance. Now it's 17-7 at the half. HAD BG gotten the stop, we would have been down only 3 at the half, possibly tied or in the lead.
We all know about the pass from Magner that Jarrett had a chance to catch. The next play, J5's pass is batted up in the air and Hawk picks it off.
The fumble at midfield with 1:46 left? Please.

Those were the good ol' days, for sure.
That Purdue game is still the best game I've ever attended in my life. The OSU game was a blast as well, but I haven't watched that one in a very long time. I watched it once to confirm my suspicions that we coulda shoulda woulda won that game, but beyond that it just angers me too much. We had the horses to run in that race, and just couldn't get it done. It's not too often that the stars align in a way that we can put our best team in a decade or two on the field against Ohio State...it still bugs me that we couldn't get the job done that day. It was a great game, but could've been greater.

I was at this game. Before I even went to BG. I hated OSU cuz I liked Michigan growing up. We got tickets randomly.
My buddies were seriously pissing their pants cuz they were so nervous. Harris outplayed Krenzel that day. One or two bounces the other way and I would have been one of maybe 200 really happy people in the 'Shoe that day.

Harris also outplayed Scott McMullen that day. Krenzel didn't play a down against the Falcons in 2003.
We definitely had the team to beat OSU on that day, but we didn't get it done. I seem to remember thinking that we actually played pretty poorly until the last 8 minutes or so.
Maybe I am confusing years, but didn't Patton pick off a badly underthrown pass that should have gone for 6 for OSU during the third quarter? If that is correct, I think OSU would have been up pretty big early in the second half. That play and the recovered onside kick were big plays to keep us in the game.

Yes, it was the best BG game i attended as well. I found this from the game.

I remember hearing on the call in shows how if Purdue didn't have a lot of drops they would have won. BG also had other opportunitie as well. BG also had a first and goal at the Purdue 7 and didn't score. Purdue also got credit for an interception by one of their d line when he dropped the ball. This led to a TD.
Hammb, one of the plays besides the 4th and 12 I vividly remember was the crushing block Magner through on the screen pass that went for 80+ yards. This led to the first and goal that we didn't score on.

I haven't had my VCR hooked up for a number of years, but I might have to so I can watch the 1992 Las Vegas bowl. That was a crazy game. BG had a huge lead, then blew the lead and won on the end when the punter for Nevada flat out a perfect snap. I guess that evened out when the fat punter beat BG in 94 on a fake.

Purdue's highlights of the game are at the following link. No footage of the Harris to Sharon TD, but the Magner safety ends the video.

Digging around youtube brought back another memory of that day - Purdue's comical intro video.

I remember laughing at most of it, thinking that they should have spent that time preparing for BG.

Thanks for posting that. The interception shown was the one i mentioned earlier. I had my binocs on that play. That player did not have control and the ball hit the ground. Purdue scored right after that.
