A nice preview of 2008...

Post by NY-BG-FAN »

From the New York Times of all places. There are a couple mistakes, but it's well informed and solid. I got pretty fired up for the season reading it. This site gets a nice compliment at the end.

Yay! I'm worth my salt!!!

Though I think a "dream season" would end better than 9-3... I'd consider 9-3 and a MAC East title a successful, and almost "expected" season.

Well, a dream season has to be going undefeated and breaking into the BCS.

But 9-3 would be, IMO, a GREAT season.

With this schedule, that probably means a MAC record with either 1 loss or no losses, and that would definitely be a great year, assuming we win the MACC game.

That is a pretty good review.

"Believe it or not, the loss to Tulsa in the G.M.A.C. Bowl could have been worse".

Really? How so? I guess it could have been 70-7 but at that point, does it really matter?

Other than that, it's pretty well done.

One completely irrelevant bone to pick with the article. It's also possible, I'm wrong.

I've always been under the impression that Scott Hamilton never attended BGSU, did he? They list him as a famous alumni, but I thought he was just a native to BG, not a university alum?

He did... he spoke at my wife's graduation ('94) and I believe an honorary doctorate of humanities or something was bestowed upon him then.

That's one of the mistakes I referenced. I guess if you count the honorary degree, he'd be an alum.

Can someone explain this part of the article to me? I have never heard about this happening.
Who is No. 76?: In 1926, as the starting quarterback and student body president, John “Button” Salmon, lay dying following a car accident, he implored his teammates to “Bear down,” inspiring the university’s fight song.
Thanks for the information.

It's a tease for the next installment. Arizona is apparently the next team in their list.

I went back to #78 (Ole Miss) to see what the tease was for us. It was something about Bo Schemmbechler was the Freshman coach in 1955 or something like that.
