I have been bored at work and able to do little things to fill in the holes...In a recent discussion on another board someone said that they thought that the non BCS schools probably have a 5% winning percentage against BCS schools. I said he was wrong, way wrong and then decided to find out for sure.
I have a spreadsheet that does not transfer well to this format if anyone wants to see it I can send it. Anyways, its pretty interesting stuff. Its for 2007 only
Con USA
Win % v BCS: 7.4% as a conference (2-25)
Win % of teams with winning records v BCS: 14.25% as a conference (2-12)
% of Home games: 42.3% (11 home 15 away 1 neutral)
MAC
Win % v BCS: 11.9% as a conference (5-37)
Win % of teams with winning records v BCS: 9.09% (1-10)
% of Home games: 22.5% (9h 31a 2n)
MWC (edit)
Win % v BCS: 38.88% (7-11)
Win % of teams with winning records v BCS: 63.63% (7-4)
% of Home games: 43.75% (7h 9a 2n)
Sun Belt
Win % v BCS: 11.53% (3-23)
Win % of teams with winning records v BCS: 22.22% (3-23)
% of Home games: 19.23% (5h 21a 0n)
WAC
Win % v BCS: 15.78% (3-16)
Win % of teams with winning records v BCS: 42.85% (3-4)
% of Home games: 11.76%% (2h 15a 2n)
Total
Win % v BCS: 15.15% (20-112)
Win % of teams with winning records v BCS: 28.84% (15-37)
% of Home games: 27.20% (34h 91a 7n)
Home Win %: 26.47% (9-25)
Away Win %: 11.22% (11-87)
I also compiled a list of all the BCS schools and there schedules last year of OOC games to see what percentage of OOC home games these schools have.
SEC 39 9 81%
Big 10 33 11 75%
Pac 10 21 9 70%
Big 12 32 16 66.60%
Big East 25 15 62.50%
ACC 29 19 60.40%
As time allows I am going to look at the end of the season top ten rankings and see how many OOC games they played.
I am also going to take a look at the other 5 conferences and see how they compare and look at the upcoming year to see if the data from 2007 is a trend.
