I like they way they are referring to us by name.
If we win Tuesday night, I think the Silicon Valley Bowl will select us Wednesday. This is my preference. I never got to see one of the old Cal Bowls. I really want this game to happen.
We need to win Tuesday!

I hope you're right for a couple reasons, Schad.
1. It will be great to get this out of the way and know what's going on.
2. With a game in San Jose, the more time that the Falcon Club, Alumni Assoc, and individual fans have to work out the logistics, the better. By announcing early, people can still get 3-week discounted fares, search for hotels, etc.

Let's tell it like it is, the MAC hasn't gained another bowl bid, Bowling Green has landed another bid for the MAC.

That's the wrong conclusion to draw from this.
Out of respect for what our team has accomplished this year, I'm not going to detail my conclusion. But, as we all know, the MAC has a long history of deserving teams stuck home for the holidays.

also there is no guarantee we will make a bowl. of course i hope they do. but if we lose to toledo i dont think we would go. I think the East champ, NIU, and Toledo would go. We dont want this to happen. but I am just saying we cant worry about a bowl bid yet. we still have to play Toledo and I hate to say it but they are no push over. but once we win then yes i think BG would get a bid.

Wouldn't you have to assume that the SVB will get the third choice of MAC teams, so they would not be in a position to select BG following the Tole_o game? I would think that the GMAC and MCB would still get first and second choice of teams from the MAC and then the SVB gets the third choice. If that is the case, I believe, after BG spanks TU, the GMAC will invite BG to Mobile. That will ensure them of a ranked team, who is on an 8-game winning streak. That would then leave the MAC champion in Detroit and either the MACC game loser or TU in the SVB.

Don't count the GMAC Bowl out for the Falcons!!!

I don't know where the SVB fits in the pecking order, but I'm not sure it matters that much.
Rick Chryst has been masterful at getting people to work together. He's shown this in the way he's gotten schools to put aside their parochial interests to work for the betterment of the league, and I think he has created that kind of atmosphere with the bowls. After all, he brought the GMAC in, gave them first choice, and managed to do it without offending the Motor City Bowl.
Now we have a third bowl in play.
If Bowling Green beats Toledo on Tuesday, that probably means Northern Illinois wins the west. Between that division title, NIU's attendance and the fact that they beat Alabama last year, I think the Huskies would be a more than acceptable choice for the GMAC Bowl. All we bring is what would probably be a better team with a national ranking. In the big scheme of things, that isn't that big a deal to bowls.
And, considering geography, it would be hard to disappoint the Motor City Bowl. Ken Hoffman's only real worry is that Miami or Toledo or Akron may not be able to hang with Minnesota or Northwestern or Michigan State. He won't be too worried about people buying tickets.
That's my thinking. But it's all hunches.
We need to beat Toledo first and settle this.

Right, you can play out dozens of different scenarios. One thing--I think we might be playing Toledo for the Bowl bid.

I tend to agree.

"We're extremely excited about the possibilities of working with the MAC," said Daniel Fenton, president of the Silicon Valley Football Classic, in confirming the deal. "We think having Bowling Green or one of the other MAC schools [in our game], from a football perspective, could create an exciting match-up."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It sounds like they have every intention of picking BG. We will more than likely not be a Mac West or East champ, so that may give them rights to pick us. The MCB and GMAC would still have the MAC west and east champs to fight over. Hmmm...It's so nice to see that we are a hot commodity.
Note:
I refuse to type in scenarios other than the outcome of us winning on Tuesday night. THERE IS NO OTHER OUTCOME...THERE WILL BE NO OTHER OUTCOME...WE WILL WIN!!!

Obviously, SVB gets the third choice of MAC teams. A third bowl doesn't come in at the eleventh hour and push aside our two established bowl committments.
No matter what happens in Toledo next week, I think we are going bowling. BG has to be at the top of the list for all three bowls right now. Having a top 25 team with an exciting offense that everyone is talking about makes us very desirable. It was clearly evident in the Blade article that the Chairman of the SVB wants us because he mentioned us by name.
Obviously, if we don't win on 23rd (or NIU wins on Saturday) we won't be in the MACC game and will be thrown into the mix for the other bowls consideration.
Even if we fall to 8-4 I have to believe we will be more attractive than say Akron, Miami and even Northern Illinois?

I think we are forgetting one major point with this 3rd bowl. the MAC can now compete in the bowl challenge deal. You need ot have at least 3 bowl games to qualify for that. Which sucked b/c after Bg and MU won last year, we wer 2-0 but get no credit since we had but 2 games. Now we will have 3, so if we can sweep att 3, we will win the contest, as no other conference will win all of their games.
