It seems that last Tulsa loss has soured a lot of people. I'm telling ya Minny is no guarantee of a sellout whatsoever. Win big at Pitt and maybe maybe we'll fill 85% of the Doyt, and that might be asking too much sadly.

I think this is about as factually accurate as a 4 year old when a lamp gets broken. It's only the end of July and the students are not back. Many people are still in summer/vacation mode. A little creativity in marketing and working with the Alumni Association should make this a sell out with no problem. I will not be able to make it to the Minnesota game because my wife and I are not quite ready to take our son, who will be 5 months old at the time, out into that big of a crowd. Only time will tell but I am not ready to write off our attendance for 2008.

Update: I just looked up and the sky has NOT fallen yet.....

Last I checked I didn't say the sky was falling was just saying that I think a Minny sellout is a bit overly optimistic. We wouldn't want a bunch of people so expecting a sellout go to the game and they're so disappointed they start jumping off roofs or something.

I think a bigger concern should be the grammar and spelling in that piece.

The BG Newsers might be due for a trip back through JOUR110...

When they say promoting the season I take that as, promoting season tickets. The Doyt will be packed because a "name" is coming in. Minnesota will get the average fan and A LOT of students.

No matter what happens at Pitt there will be a big crowd because it's a Big10 school coming in.

I beg to differ 137. How we do in the Pitt game will have a big impact on how the crowd is at the minnesota game, also as usual, weather will have an impact as well. If we beat up pretty well on pitt, pull out the win, and the weather is sunny and warm...then yes, it will probably be a completely sold out game. However, if we get slaughtered and the weather's crappy, then you'll just get the usual diehard season-tix holder fans. yeah, those are two extremes...but that's the truth. But time only time will tell and we just need to take it one game at a time.

GO FALCONS!!

I don't think the situation is nearly that dire.

Yeah, if we get 'slaughtered' and the weather is bad the attendance will suffer a bit, but even in that extreme situation we'll certainly get more than just the die-hards.

For one thing we'll get the Minny fans. For another, we'll get people who are excited at the prospect of seeing a B11 team, even with bad weather. Also, since it will be the first home game of the season, I expect we'll have a decent turnout from the Freshman class.

Great..we whine during and after the games, now we're expanding our repertoire to include whining before the season even starts.....

I don't see the connection between that poorly written anecdote and your post.

Any Falcon fan within a three hour drive who can make it to the Minnesota game (new parents of five month olds are excused) should flat out be at the Doyt.

Period.

Why?

1. This is a perfectly scheduled home opener- a early September Saturday but not Labor Day with a true night kick off 7:30 PM. Exactly what many of us (I know, I know- not all) hope for early in the season.

2. We play MINNESOTA. As in the Big Ten. At the Doyt. Everybody should be there. Missouri- we were there. Iowa State- we were there. Navy- we were there. Minnesota/Big Ten should bring every Falcon fan. Everybody who ever said- "geez, I wish we played a big name opponent at home on an early Saturday with a night kick off....." should be there.

3. You can tailgate all day long. I mean flat out all day long. Do it up like the big boys. All day long.

4. Because we should support the program. What MAC school has made more moves/future moves (overall) to improve all athletics than BG in the last couple years? A lot of people have stepped up big time. Let's just buy the tickets, bring some friends, eat some brats, go crazy, beat the Big Ten, (nicely) rush the field (don't hurt the goalposts!) and do some celebrating.

Just get there and have a blast. I would love a "sell out"- what we need is a huge BG turnout wearing orange and doing the college football thing.

Go Falcons!

I'll be there with all of my friends and as much family as I can get. My father was just hounding me about tailgate plans tonight, so I know he (not an alum even) is pretty excited about it.

I'll be out there all day. We're going to have a blast and enjoy a good game against a Big10 team. If the rest of the locals don't want to join us then I don't care, it's their loss.

We'll have a good crowd, but I don't much care about the details at this point. I'm tired of worrying about attendance crap. Either people will come or they will not. It's their loss.

Yeah, usually the preseason is full of b*tching & moaning. Guess we're getting more consistent - year-round whining!

I beg to differ, I say the kvetching never ended from three seasons ago.

This is more like a flower, blooming in the summer rain! ;)

:supz:

I am more than ready to roll along. Reason #3 is the best....tailgate ALL day long. I hope to be there by 2 or so and have a room across the street at the Poison Nut Budget...got a great deal. Mrs. Freak and the Freaklings will be there later but my butt is gonna be out soaking up the sunshine and hangin' with best fans BG has to offer. And I intend to hang long after the game as well. Then, just walk across the street and crash. Perfect. :-D

If someone doesn't want to show up, that's their problem and loss. I'm looking forward to the Pitt game, obviously, but that MN is REALLY gonna be cool.

32 days.... BEAT PITT. Roll Along....
