I'm planning on making hotel reservations for Friday night. We will definately be tailgating. I would like to assure that I locate some fellow BGSU folk before I venture to Heinz Field.
Where are all the die hards going to be staying? And, Is there a set location for the AZZ TG?

I think I have enough Marriott points to get two free nights at the SpringHill Suites on the north side of the river, so we will be staying there. It's also the closest hotel to the stadium.

(Staying two nights because I have to take the wife to the Titanic exhibit at the Carnegie Science Center on Sunday. )

Yeah, we're currently juggling days/nights around a trip to Fallingwater and the art museum. After that, we're just going to find the best combination of close and cheap downtown.

Snide comments from hammb aside, what are the best suggestions for hotels again? We'd like to stick close to the stadiums, since we picked up tickets to the Pirates game that night, but I don't think two nights at what now appears to be $180+ a night floats with the budget.

Check out the Hampton Inn on McKnight Road. It is within 5 interstate miles of the stadium.

Our dilemma is actually this: We'll be in the vicinity Friday night (Fallingwater) and initially we were going to drive downtown and find a room for Friday/Saturday, but now may opt for staying on the outskirts (or even distant suburbs) and driving in Saturday morning, then crashing somewhere closer Saturday night. The thought for Friday, though, would be to find somewhere cheaper, but with places to go out in the area.

My room at the SpringHill Suites has a sofa bed you can use.

leaving BG saturday morning early, and staying over night saturday night into sunday. Not sure what hotel. but it's like 13 miles from the stadium, off of the PA turnpike is what i was told. (i didnt book it)

From what you said, it sounds like you are staying in Cranberry. If that is the case, it is a pretty straight shot down I-79 to I-279.

Fallingwater is pretty cool. Since it is Labor Day weekend, hotels will not be cheap. The area by the airport has a lot of hotels and there is an IKEA, a decent size mall and restaurants. I never got IKEA, but maybe that is me.

The southside has a lot of cool bars, but no real hotels within walkin distance. The hotels in Greentree may be an option as well. It is a few minutes drive from downtown, southside and Mt. Washington. Plus you get to drive through the Fort Pitt tunnel to go downtown which is pretty neat.

I booked two nights at the Hampton downtown just to be sure to get it, though I think we may investigate and cancel Friday if we can figure something out cheaper, which I'm sure we will... I don't mind a little extra drive in the AM, I was just leaning heavily toward an easy walk/short drive Saturday night. I'd stay about anywhere Friday night, but the wife insists on finding a place to grab a beer.


Fallingwater is great, we went three years ago and really liked it. Have a few prints of it on our walls around the house. We're heading there Friday evening, then back down that way to Kentuck Knob Monday morning. Kind of a simple, "blah" home (by Fallingwater standards), but some of the views of the countryside are ridiculous.

I'm banking on a light crowd at the Bucs game Saturday, or maybe a blow out. We got seats down low, but by the RF wall. The one regret I had on my last visit is that we rushed in and rushed out and didn't take time to walk around the yard.

Add in a trip to the zoo and art museum, and we're spending a vacation running around western PA, getting home just in time to crash for a day, then speed off to BG for the home opener.

There's a Holiday Inn Express in the Southside, right by all the bars.
