James Schneider, 6', 221lb LBer

Noticed he was added to the roster.

And for those that care, the FR and other JC additions have been added to the roster and assigned numbers. So if you want to run out and get a Marc Stevens jersey, he's #63.

Yes, it's great to see the new guys (freshman, etc.) added to the roster, but we noticed the preferred walk-ons aren't yet added...Tanski, etc.

why do people so much about this tanski guy. he's a WALK ON, i dont give a crap if he was mr football. all that means is he put up big numbers in high school with a good team around him in a good system prolly. i really dont expect him to be anything more than what tony hunter has been, a guy to take snaps in practice.

Sure, until they move him to defensive tackle.

With the way our d-line gets arrested we may need him there. I wouldn't count him out.

I tend to disagree with that and actually believe the next starter after Sheehan is going to be Tanski. Yeah, way too early to tell, but I've got reasons.

People put him down for his size: 6'2, 190. I believe that's right about what Troy Smith was when he went to OSU, and I guess he turned out pretty well, or at least his size didn't bother him all too much. 6'2 is also taller than Chase Daniel and Todd Reesing, and those guys seem to fare pretty well.

He's put down for being on a good team. I see that as ludicrous. He's good enough to start at Mentor, so he can obviously beat good HS competition if he's on a good team. He did very well there, and he became a really good team leader, which is maybe as important for a QB as physical talent.

He played in a HS system very similar to what he run here. Obviously, the HS version would be watered down some, but the principles are the same. He succeeded there, so I don't see a reason to believe he won't succeed here.

I see him being like a Todd Reesing of Kansas. Small QB, big deal in HS, big risk for a college, but eventually paying off in a huge way. We'll see in a couple years if I'm right.

I agree with you, except I don't see it as a risk at all. What do we lose if he doesn't pan out? You can never have too many QBs.

I guess the kid can't be too much of a risk if he's not on scholarship anyway but I'd be really shocked if this kid turned out to be more than just a okay 3rd stringer and maybe decent backup by the time he's a senior. The kid did not get one single Div.1 schollie offer from anybody, that says something , of what I'm quite sure of. I guess we'll see, he could turn out to be very good , stranger things have happened.

It does strike me as odd though that a qb could play at a Div.1 HS level and be good , play vs some pretty good teams , be worthy of a Mr. Football award and not be deemed worthy of a schollie by even one single Div.1 university.

I believe it's the Clyde kicker Jerry Phillips if I'm not mistaken.

No the kicker is here on the roster as a full ride

Clyde kicker Jerry Phillips was originally tagged as a preferred walked on until a scholarship opened up recently (in the last couple of months).

I am not sure if Jerry is in class/on campus this past summer with the other freshmen. If my memory is correct, he was not going to attend BGSU until January of 2009.

Phillips is listed on the roster. #48. Don't know if that means anything.
