The sports writers there are seriously challenged, yes? There seems to be naught but errors in most articles. More than you would expect.

I think the writer intended to say:

"...the team would run down the field for 'noWt as..."

This would make that error a typo rather than a spelling mistake, so I can live with that. It is not my favourite use of English, but there is hardly a proletarian Yorkshireman that does not abuse our most noble language in such a cheap way and, I concede, Yorkshiremen show up in the oddest places. As for the other clanger, well, it won't do really.

I watched about an hour of practice and came away very impressed, especially with the QB's, kickers and punters. I thought the QB's were right on target almost all of the time and we had some booming kickoffs and punts during the special teams portion of the practice.
I watched from the "new" orange seats and that was the UGLY part of practice. They might be fine for a 5'4", 120# person, but for someone 6'3" they are about as uncomfortable as you can get. I'll take my regular chair seats at the Doyt anytime, and would prefer the regular bench seats over the new chairs. The backs seemed rather flimsy and I wonder how long it will be before some of them start breaking. The new top of the scoreboard is a big improvement, but I sure wish they could do something with the net behind the goal post at the sout end. It hasn't moved in a couple years and is loose and looks very sloppy!

If you read it again, it looks like they fixed the typos. They probably were rushing to get it on the site last night and then fixed it this morning or something.

The best part in my opinion is knowing that we're going to keep going for the big play, as 8 receivers had at least one 40+ yard play. Sheehan's arm must be feeling pretty good pretty early this year. I hope they keep it up and continue hitting the big plays. We're going to need them against Pitt.

Great point...I love hearing Vrvillo's KO's hitting the back of the end zones and drilling a 54 yarder...with 5 yards to spare. He could have a huge year in 2008.

they got the information and point across....in the end it has served its purpose, poor grammar, spelling and or with lack of punctuation. I have often wondered how many people who come off as overly critical of the written language on boards, treat conversations with the same vigor. "Your pause was not long enough for sentence, you mispronounced that word, the correct way is..." I think from a consistency perspective they must.

It's cuz everyone on here gets critiqued on a message board when they make a minor mistake at their job.

The great thing about English is that it evolves. Many of the root languages that make up English, like Latin and Saxon, probably failed because they could not evolve. Welsh is a great example of a current language that struggles to survive because of its relevance in today's terms, and I believe it will fail. In 50 years, it may well be that the word "than" falls out of use because the overwhelming preponderance of users cannot be bothered to distinguish between then and than, either in written or spoken English.

That is fine. The issue here is whether someone who uses English professionally should be accountable for the standard of English he or she uses. I say so, and any error that a professional makes with English in the course of his or her work is about as unforgivable as a professional football player who walks on to the field with a rugby ball instead of a football.

All well and good, but will our esteemed leader let him attempt to kick the ball deep this year? I have it on pretty good authority that he has not been permitted to kick the ball deep, instead relying on directional kicking because the staff A) Does not trust him to consistently get touchbacks, and B) have no idea how to teach a crew to cover a kickoff.
