Yeah, shockingly the 3rd Qtr. of this game was maybe the best 3rd qtr in all of GB's tenure here as HC.

I'll give the three new offensive line starters credit for making it look like we didn't skip a beat.

To think: we had to overcome a Top 25 team on the road, biased Big East refs and the crippling off-season defections of multiple third stringers!!

Yup - GB coached a very good game, while Wannstedt s**t himself repeatedly.

Boijicicicicci was stellar...Jahmal Brown was a tackling machine at safety and Kenny Lewis made a big play on the strip. Turner ran for a score threw for a score and whipped up a tasty duck a la orange at halftime. Let us not overlook the play of C Bullock. he ran hard and caught some passes out of the backfield. He may have shown that he can be that all purpose back we need. He may not be the waterbug that Ransom or Geter is, but neither was PJ Pope. :-)

Bullock was our leading receiver today I believe with 49 yds

My mistake....Barnes threw that TD to Scheidler not Turner. AT still made some nice plays though

My game ball goes to the D. We could have been out of this game in the first quarter, but the would not break. This has got to be the best performance I have seen from them in 3 years.

PS. The ESPNU commentators sucked. If I was blind I would have no clue that BG was the other team in this game.

Back from Pitt! Awesome!

1. Chris Bullock - folks, he have a running back now. Solid game and he never gave up.

2. Jamal Brown - tackling monster out there.

3. Freddie Barnes - did his best impression of Pat White and kicked AZZ in doing so. Awesome!

My game ball goes to the Bowling Green TEAM!

Gregg Brandon caoched a n all around good game...very rare for him, but a solid effort all around...perhaps the best game he's coached since '03 Purude.

Brown looked awesome at the safety spot. A great looking tackler...wraps up everythign, I like tos ee that.

Barnes, Turner, Bullock, OL, on offense looked very good.

The best part of it was that Sheehand didn't look particualarly good and we still domianted the game. If he shows up and plays his best this offense can ber real good.

Ward and Brandon need special mention for having those players focused and ready to go.

Hillman for having those players in better condition than Pitt.

The players - showed a lot of character being down 14 points and shut-up dubious fans like me who believed the off the field stuff was going to be in their heads.

I'm very happy for the coaches and players of this team. They deserve to celebrate and being celebrated.

Game balls....

1) The entire D and Coach Ward. They got punched in the mouth on the first drive and regrouped to hold "Shady", Mr. Heisman, to 71 yards rushing on 23 carries. BG held Pitt to 129 total rushing yards...If this isn't night and day improvement in our run D, I don't know what is. The tackling, for the most part, was excellent...led by Brown...is our best tackler and he had some major hits. My main cat, Ream, was a beast and you can tell he's been in the weight room big time this past off season. One more thing...Seeing John Haneline back on the field was the best. Talked to Chris, his brother, after the game and he said John was so jacked to get back out there. This D Unit, if it plays like that all year, will silence ALL critics. Way to go, Coach Ward!!!

1A) The Oline. After some first quarter jitters, they stood strong against the #5 D unit from last year and did a superb job. Bojicic played a phenominal game for his first start. Curtis, Fink and Minturn provided great leadership and it was so great to see Steffy back after that freak accident that caused him to miss the GMAC Bowl. Being a Pittsburgh kid, Steffy was nothing but smiles after the game. Got to meet his brother, Charlie, who played for Pitt a couple years ago.

2) Jimmy Scheidler...what a way to open the season for a guy that hasn't been a factor yet. You should have seen this kid's smile after the game by the team busses. WAY TO GO JIMMY!!!

3) Nick Iovinelli...what a day punting he had. He punted 8 times for a 45 yard average and was very key in the field position battle. Kudos to Neal Dahlman for getting those snaps back perfectly all day so Nick could do his thing.

All in all, I can't tell you how pleased I am for the way this team bounced back after falling down 14-0 to outscore Pitt 27-3 the rest of the way.

Coach Brandon, you and the staff had an excellent game plan and made great adjustments to take advantage of Pitt's weaknesses. You totally outcoached Dave W.

CONGRATS FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TIME TO ROLL THE BIG TEN NEXT!!!!

hammb,

I kept telling people around me this Pitt game was eerily similar to Purdue in 03. Top 25 preseason opponent with BiG expectations...BG was backed up the whole first quarter and was lucky to be down only 7. Great win!
