Thoughts From The Couch...

* Chris Bullock should be our starting tailback. Geter is a third down back at best.

* If the defense plays like they have the first two games, I like our chances in the MAC.

* Boise State will probably be the best offense we face all year.

* Brandon didn't make us give away four trurnovers tonight but he still has some blame in this one. Don't know what advice he got on making the challenge call? Also, third and one play call was horrible. Playing Geter over Bullock?

* What happened to Roger Williams and our kick return team?

* Do you notice that when a Brandon team starts going bad, they can't seem to turn it around? Don't give the Pitt games as an example. That first quarter wasn't that bad. I am talking about the Tulsa and Miami last year...and now this fourth quarter against Minny. When the wheels come off, they come completely off. Its like we give up.

* I like Briggs' motor.

* Where was our Tight End tonight?

I totally agree with Bullock over Geter. Bullock doesn't go down with a tap, either.

I liked how our defense played. We were fairly solid, and it was only after putting them out there for almost the entire 2nd half that we got way behind.

Didn't the TE catch 1 pass tonight? I think that's what I saw.

I agree with just about all of your points completely. I can't recall a penalty on us, there had to have been one or two, but clean game by both teams. I like that discipline. I like our chances in the MAC a lot. Turnovers kill. We have to learn not to give up to avoid the games you mention the wheels falling off. I also liked our mix tonight, but some of the play calls, particularly on third and fourth down were head scratchers. What a great crowd. What a shame to miss such an opportunity to make BG football games can't miss campus events. Onward.

Your couches have a similar view as mine.

As disappointing as this game was, a MACC and a bowl game are the goal, not a win over a middle-of-the-road Big Ten team. It would have been nice, but it really does nothing to hurt our season.
Some things need sharpened, others need replacing.

Rollo, I think you nailed it all pretty good right there.

Zero penalties on the Falcons tonight. And only two on the Gophers. One of which was an intentional delay of game. Which means there was one and only one penalty related to actual game action. To me, that is basically impossible. No holdings, facemasks, illegal use of hands, pass int, etc??? I'm not just saying on Minny, us either. The referees have to be sleeping out there to not make a single penalty call all night. IMO.

I'll tell you what, having watched this game on TV, Minnesota brought some absolute junk football into the Doyt. It was subtle, and I'm sure that no on in the stadium noticed it, but if you go back and look through the tape of the game, there were all kinds of fists thrown at our player's heads after they were on the ground, questionably late hits, and flying arms that were never called. There was also a pretty obvious horse-collar (on Turner, I think) that went without penalty.

I'm not saying that any of this had any bearing on the outcome of the game, but it sure was illustrative of the level of class that the Gophers brought tonight. I've heard of "Minnesota nice" before, but this garbage was just stupid.

Good win tonight, Gophers, but I'd write a note to your coach when you get a chance and tell him to tone that s**t down. None of that is ever fun to see in the college game.

I agree with just about everything. Turnovers kill. duh. We hold on to the ball, cut the turnovers in half, and this game is interesting late in the 4th.

I saw several cases where a late hit, unsportsmanlike, etc, calls could have been made. I don't believe I saw anything that was 'omg how do you not call that?!?!' but I did see lots of stuff that could have been called if the refs wanted to be pricks.

Over the last several years I never would have thought that I said this. I love our defense. Even late when the game was starting to get out of hand, they hung in there and kept playing with a ton of heart. I loved it. Down by two plus scores and still making Minny earn every yard. Just a couple of years ago that wasn't happening.

However...I hate our offense. When we fumbled early in the 2nd half and Minny went back up by 11, our offense stopped playing. And as the game went on, it got worse. I'm sorry, that kind of shat pisses me off. The defense hadn't given up. The game was far from over, but the offense conceded defeat midway through the 3rd. Someone else where said that they've come to the realization that when Brandon coached teams get off track that they totally fall apart. I think he may be on to something.

Now to end on a positive note. Even though ESPNU didn't do a great job at showing them, THE Falcon Marching Band sounded FANTASTIC!!! YOU ROCK!!! :supz:

I didn't think Sheehan looked comfortable AT ALL. He threw up some nice passes but also a lot of ducks, missed targets, and very slow or missed reads.

This one is history. Let's get to Boise.

The offense put up decent stats last night, but I'm with RUIT in that Tyler looked really uncomfortable. He short hopped a couple balls about 3 yards in front of his receiver. Not very Tyler-like.

I hope that our offense gets itself figured out over the next 3 weeks. I'm starting to get concerned that we aren't going to be able to stretch the field vertically against anybody. Tyler made a nice throw on the TD to Wright, but we don't even attempt to get the ball to our receivers deep and over hte middle. I know that's not the point of our offense, but we at least need to show that we are willing to attempt to go down the field.

Tyler is struggling a bit thus far. He didn't look particularly good against Pitt and he was off again last night.

So far as the "extr-curriculars" go...it the officials don't get a handle on that stuff early and don't call the obvious late hits, that only encourages more junk as the game goes on.

I think stuff was going on with both sides. The refs were letting a lot go, whether right or wrong. At least it seemed consistent. That horse-collar I think you are talking about, I thought he caught a piece of the face mask on that play too.

I noticed that on our tiny ass video screen replay as well. How can that official on that sideline miss both a facemask and horse collar on one play.

And i am not saying that just because it was not called in our favor. Just using that as an example of how the officials were not making any calls throughout the game.

I watched the game on TV and i was wondering from those at the game...Do the recievers run deep routes alot because on tv you cannot see. To me it seems like every passing play is short slants, crosses, and screens...Or is Tyler just hiting the dump reciever each play?

On another note i was wondering why off. cordinator went away from AT in the second half...he ran so hard on his catches trucked people for extra yards. He played very physical and he didn't commit any turnovers. I dont understand maybe they were just waiting to get closer to the goaline to use him.
