This BG/UT game is BG's second chance!

A lot of us on this board, including myself, felt after BG's loss to NIU earlier this year that our season might still turn out to be a very good one, but that it also could end in a sour way if we were to go say 9-2 or 8-3 and end up sitting at home during the bowl season. Well, with the news about the Silicon Valley and MAC agreeing on a third bowl, I almost view BG's game with UT as a second chance for our Falcons. As if this game didn't already have enough riding on it, winning the UT game for BG could land us in a bowl no matter what happens in the EMU/NIU game. We still need help to get into the MACC, but I do believe we control our own destiny as far as if we end up playing in a bowl game or not. We now have a "second chance."

I believe four MAC teams have a shot at the current three bowl slots we have available with BG, NIU, UT and a MAC East school (Miami or Akron) to fight it out. This is why BG needs to beat UT. If NIU beats EMU, UT beats BG and Miami beats Akron, I feel those three schools would have the inside track. But I think if BG beats UT, I feel we'll get into a bowl whether we get back to the MACC or not. Some of you may agree and some may disagree....but the one thing we'll all agree on is, beating Toledo will do BG much more good than losing to them will - for a million and one reasons. We have a chance to redeem ourselves, I just hope we cash in. We haven't won at the Glass Bowl in a decade, it's been ten years since that 1994 win. That's got to change, or we very well could be sitting at home during the bowls.

We've got at least three bowls bids out there for the taking now, the most ever in MAC history! If BG does not go bowling, this season will go down as one of the more disappointing endings despite all the success we've already had. I've been down that road in 1997, 2000 and 2002 with basketball and in 1994 and 2002 with football. We don't need any more repeats. Let's beat Toledo, and make this another season to remember!!!
