Please Keep Ball State and Dante Love in your prayers

Post by gmartin »

I didn't see this posted anywhere. I am a BG grad, class is 1995 and now a trainer for the Indianapolis Colts.

I just wanted to pass this along to you.

As of late this morning he still was being evaluated. He is in very serious condition. Please keep him in your prayers. This is very serious.

Doesn't sound good. I doubt he will ever play again.

Damn. Hopefully he recovers well from this nasty injury. You wouldn't think he'd be able to play ever again after that but you never know. Love was becoming one of my favorite wr's in my college fantasy team as he had been tearing it up. :(

I hate injuries - especially of this magnitude. Hopefully he will recover w/o any long term effects.

Football doesn't matter at this point, just get well.

This just shows the risk that these KIDS go through to entertain us. I hope he recovers 100%, but I now look at college football a little differently.

I was watching this game and saw his injury and it was a devastating moment for the team and everyone involved. You could tell that his body just went completely limp after the hit. I have great respect for Love and the Ball State team this season and he has become the most exciting player in the MAC and I think he had a future in the NFL. I hope he has a full recovery from this. His surgery was extremely successful and he can move all four extremities so that is good news.

Absolutely, Dante and Ball State are in my prayers. I watched some of that game and it was a very scary situation.

Good to hear the surgery went well.

I went to see a D-III game between St.Vincent (Pa.) and Westminster (Pa.)...did so with a friend who's a SVC alum and booster; he'd been telling me about a kid from NDCL HS he'd helped to recruit who was a starting DB for them.
Anyway, this kid hit a WR hard on a catch downfield...got up and collapsed a few yds. away. They worked on him for about 15 min or so...eventually, he was able to get up and helped to sidelines. After much insistance by the trainers, he went to local hospital where it was found he'd cracked two vertabrae (original diagnosis was "compressed" vertabrae).... stayed in hospital overnite, fitted with a special back brace etc.

These injuries are almost impossible to stop unfortunately, as the speed of the game and force of hits and landings can't usually be controlled. This kid is walking, thank GOD, but his season, and perhaps his career too, is over.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

A young man in the USF/FIU also got a neck injury. With the speed and size of the players today, these injuries are a sad reality in football. I hope Dante can resume a functional life, football is the least of his concerns right now.

From FOX Sports: http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/8543270?MSNHPHMA

This is stating that Dante Love will not play football again but should live a normal life outside football. Very tough break for that young man.

Oh man...what a very tough deal for a very talented player. In the grand scheme of things, it's good to hear he should be able to live a normal life going forward.

Not entirely sure if this is true, but I was told that the player who delivered the hit (I think it was Chris Adkins or Atkins) had the facebook status that night that read something to the effect that he deliviered hits that made players leave on a stretcher or in a bodybag. If that's the case then he has no place being on a football field. Love was a great player and any other football player should hate that such a talent's career ended that way.
