Attendance Woes for Saturday
Attendance Woes for Saturday
I heard from somebody within the athletic department that the ticket sales are looking very grim for this saturday's game. This is so depressing considering we are coming off of a strong win and against a MAC team for homecoming. Let's hope the ticket sales pick up, because I think that we have a very exciting team to watch.

Well, two years ago, EMU was our HC opponent ... we had a .500 record coming into the game ... the forecast called for a high in the upper 60s with sunny skies.
Does this sound familiar?
The official attendance was less than 15k.
So while there's a lot of enthusiasm among the "core" fan base, and Homecoming is always a good draw, we cannot assume that the Doyt will be packed.

Considering BG came off a strong win? A good win, certainly a game they should have won, but few would describe picking off a weak WY team as "strong." Plus you have the choke against Minn. at home, a game they simply should not have lost, much less botched as they did. And frankly, even as gas prices are down, there may be a lot of folks that don't want to burn the fuel to get from Columbus and Cleveland, for a game likely to be a blow-out against one of the worst teams in football presently. It isn't a compelling match-up.
And while I'm piling on the negatives, I'll toss the fact that OSU-Wisc. is on TV, just about the time the BGSU game ends. If some are loath to admit it, we lose fans ever single time such a situation exists.
Finally, homecoming as an event at BGSU remains an un-compelling crowd driver. Parents day seems to do better most years.
That said, there are a vast number of tents out there, and a lot of folks aren't going to buy tickets until game-day, I know I won't.

We'll be there and I just bought four more tickets for friends to come along. I asked the ticket office about sales for the game and I was told they were "alright." The weather looks like it'll be good (no rain is always a major plus), and it's Homecoming which should help. Yeah, the Minnesota loss will probably keep some away unfortunately. But I'll tell you what....if we get anywhere near the student turnout for this game as we did for the Minnesota game, I don't care how many tickets we sell, that would awesome. That was a great turnout by our students and if three of every four of them comeback again, we'll be in great shape in that regard.
GO BG!!!
I think the student turn-out is good on several levels. Beyond the "now" it is five and ten years down the road that I see big gains. Not that most alumni here are such, but a great many BGSU graduates didn't go to many games in their day. Changing the culture at BGSU, to get students out to the games, that will yield gains in the future. Not a quick change, but a meaningful and lasting one I hope.

I can't tell you how tired I am of this. You don't want to go to the game? Don't go. I don't care.
We'll be there....just like every home game. Doesn't matter who the opponent is or how good/bad they seem to be.
It's all about supporting the Falcons. Period.
GO BG!~

Agree strongly with your comments on this...I'm damn tired of hearing excuses from people, ESPECIALLY alums, who don't go back to BG especially for HC. You guys know that I'd be there if at all possible...but my stepdaughter's wedding has to take precedence in this situation. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 18th for the Miami game.
In the meantime,,,,,,, GO FALCONS!!!!!!
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

Who here said they don't want to go?
And supporting the team is fine, who here doesn't, but not all equate that with having to attend every single game, nor feel it is required.
I'm not speaking to FF90, let me make that clear up-front. But I long ago grew tired of people that attend every single game, that lord it over the rest of the world, particularly those who can't do the same, and among that group those who aren't happy or satisfied with aspects of a program.
Similarly, I grew tired of the Pollyanna set that regardless of attendance record, hated any less than positive comment about anything, on the grounds that the only true path was to be positive at all times about all things.
Likewise, I dislike the purely, and occasionally vindictively negative set about as much.
People have their reasons and motivations for attending all, some, or none of the games. So be it, go in peace, follow your bliss. I don't care.
Myself? I consider myself a pragmatic realist, with positive aspirations. I want to see the teams do as well as BGSU at a whole, and want the achievements and game experiences to be as special as my attending the University was.

I believe it's because attendance means revenue and revenue means sustainability. Increased attendance = increased revenue stream = progress for the athletic department and programs.BGorDeath wrote:Why is attendance so important to everyone?
Plus empty stadiums on homecoming (or any other time) just look silly.

But, I like looking silly, personally.ZiggyZoomba wrote:I believe it's because attendance means revenue and revenue means sustainability. Increased attendance = increased revenue stream = progress for the athletic department and programs.BGorDeath wrote:Why is attendance so important to everyone?

I like that steak comes from cows. That is why a cow will not think twice about eating you.
In addition, it truly helps recruiting as well. Future Falcons will look at the butts in the seats and say to themselves - "There must be something to what all the coaches and current players are telling me."ZiggyZoomba wrote:I believe it's because attendance means revenue and revenue means sustainability.
